To paraphrase a well-known bumper sticker: I was not born in Houston, but I got here as soon as I could! Minus a few years here and there, I have lived in the Houston area since I was a pre-schooler. That's a mighty long time. During my years at Rice University, I fell in love with Houston's creativity, vitality, and diversity. Beyond its unique skyline, iconic stadiums, and legendary humidity, this city of has 2. 5 million people from all over the world who bring an enterprising spirit and a truly awesome mix of cultures and cuisines. My many jobs since the 1980s have included driving taxis and rideshares all around Greater Houston. I've actually covered much of the city by bicycle! I've also held some regular, full-time salaried positions as a high school Latin teacher, information technology instructor, and IT support technician. I'm new at the tour guide endeavor, but it's something I've thought about getting into for many years, for I love informing travellers about cool and unusual places in the city, as well as the story behind it. Not to mention telling them of interesting events that are taking place here! My tours will go beyond the usual tourist stops and explore the real Houston, where regular folks like to go for cultural and social experiences. My specialties include: + established art spaces in and around the Museum District + alternative arts, including our famous Art Cars + local craft breweries and our international food scene -Bachelor's degree in Classical Studies from Rice University -Experience driving in Houston since 1979 -Rideshare driver in Houston since 2019 -Contributed to the launch of Houston's Edition of the World Naked Bike Ride in 2011.

Houston's annual Art Car Parade is the first and largest of its kind in the world. Since the 1980s, this rolling party has attracted automotive masterpieces from all over North America. Some local public schools even have Art Car classes! The Orange Show Society administers the Art Car Parade. The Orange Show Monument, in Houston's East End, is a permanent folk art tribute to citrus fruit. Next to it is Smither Park, featuring outdoor mosaics made from found and repurposed objects and a pavilion for performances. Just down the Gulf Freeway is the Houston Botanic Garden, one of the city's newest attractions. In the West End we find the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, once home to philanthropist and art collector Miss Ima Hogg. The 1920s-era furnishings and the plant life are magnificent to behold. We will take a guided tour of this splendid spot. NOTE: Much of this tour is spent outdoors. Sunblock and hydration are strongly recommended!
