Galveston is similar to New Orleans (NO), but on a 1/10 scale. It is an exotic city with a European flair. Galveston's Strand is similar to NO's Bourbon Street, only cleaner and quieter. Galveston was historically a Spanish Catholic port city full of colorful characters. America's most famous pirate, Jean Lafitte, lived here. See the old Victorian homes, row houses, and small castle-like mansions. With over one-half dozen museums, live theater, art galleries, music venues, a massive waterpark, a variety of great restaurants and hole in the wall bars, Galveston has something for everyone.

Your Houston tour itinerary

This tour includes your choice of touring in either a historical 1890s stone and brick mansion or a museum. 1. Touring a mansion: A. The Bishop's Palace or B. Moody Mansion. 2. Touring a museum. You have a choice of the: A. The Railroad Museum - the 4th largest in the US. B. The Texas Seaport Museum with the 1877 tall ship Elissa. This museum focuses on immigration through Galveston and the Port of Galveston commerce. C. The Ocean Star Oil Rig Museum - go on a former oil rig. D. The Bryan Museum - has the largest collection of art and history from the American Southwest. E. Seawolf Park - on Pelican Island. It has the World War II submarine, the USS Cavalla, and the destroyer, the USS Stewart, each of which you can tour. F. Local history museum on Monday through Saturday. 3. Shopping on the historic Strand. 4. Guided tour of Galveston through its neighborhoods, including seeing plantation style homes from the 1830s. 5. Stop for home-made ice cream, chocolates, salt waster taffy, and more.

  • Other: This tour includes transportation from the Houston area to Galveston, the guided tour, the admission to one historical 1890s home OR the admission to one museum of one's choice as listed in the itinerary and transport to downtown Houston, the Galleria area, the Amtrak station, Greyhound station, Hobby (HOU) Airport, or Bush Intercontinental Airport of Houston (IAH). Galveston is approximately 51 miles/82 kilometers from downtown Houston. Thus, approximately one hour will be spent driving from Houston to Galveston and another hour returning from Galveston to Houston. The distance from Galveston to Hobby (HOU) Airport is about 42 miles/68 kilometers and will take about 50 minutes. The distance from Galveston to IAH is about 70 miles/113 kilometers and will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Thus, you will have about 3.75 to 4.2 hours to explore the city and island. Meals, snacks, and shopping are separate.
