I have been a Taxi Driver in Manchester for many years, gaining valuable knowledge of the City and wider region, as a Mancunian I have always been interested in the City and all its various aspects. In 2008, I had the opportunity to attend a Tour Guiding course administered by The Institute of Tourist Guiding, this intensive course culminated in examinations, both practical and written. The time spent studying and in practice, led to winning awards and in 2013, I became 'Tourism Star of the Year' for Manchester. This led onto'National Tourism SuperStar of the Year' in 2014. Once again, Tours By Locals has delivered what was promised and more! John continues in a line of outstanding guides that we have had the good luck to have worked with over the past few years. He arrived on time, actually early, and the car was ready; clean and warm. John engaged us for the full three hours with knowledgeable background information and facts about virtually every building of interest which we passed. He delivered the requested architecture and history of Manchester in an organized and thoroughly professional manner… explaining how a relative backwater was transformed into a cosmopolitan metropolis of over 7 million people. I highly recommend this tour to both football fans … and those who don’t know the difference between football and soccer… As well as students of history and urban planning.

He was very punctual yet not in a hurry, letting us, tired travelers who just landed after a long flight, to learn and move at our own pace while offering everything that was needed from a home felt blanket to a needed rest stop.
