Family Heritage Tours

John provided a wonderful experience, exactly what I hoped for. We were able to visit important places from the lives of my ancestors, and John made arrangements to meet with people at two churches that provided me with excellent documentation and helped solve one mystery. John's black cab was excellent to travel about the areas we visited. He picked us up at our hotel by the train station and delivered back to the station at the end of the visit, for our return to London. A memorable visit to Manchester and Ashton-under-Lyne.

From the moment we were picked up at our hotel in his classic black cab, we enjoyed a full, rewarding day of touring family heritage in the Yorkshire countryside with John Consterdine. John is a dedicated professional touring agent who had studied our family history from information we gave to him, & he selected key villages & cities that reflected the lives of our ancestors. John provided lots of time at each of our stops to explore & have a feel for the lives of our English ancestors. It was lovely to arrive at Bradford Cathedral in time to receive the sacrament at Holy Eucharist & have time to chat with Cathedral staff regarding ancestral connection to the Cathedral. We journeyed on to Halifax, where we discovered a family surname in an honorary plaque on the walls of the Minster. We were delighted to also find this Minster was the home church of Ann Lister, and where she is buried.

For my birthday I wanted to fulfill a lifetime dream, to visit the village where my ancestors lived. I contacted John and he built an itinerary that took me to the village of Whalley. Not only did he take me there, but he had done research and had a lot of knowledge about the village. I was able to walk in the town where my ancestors did many years ago. I visited the Abby and the old church. I walked though the cemetery where long ago relatives were buried. We even stopped at the local pub for a pint. It was the thrill of a lifetime. I set aside one day to do as much genealogy as possible in the Oldham/Huddlesfield area. I gave John information on my ancestors in advance. He researched church locations, graves, spoke to the churches about opening for my visit, etc. In between destinations, John gave context to the tour with historical narrative. He also provided an excellent tour of Manchester noting highlights to explain how the city has adapted and thrived in the last few decades. FABULOUS DAY!!

John was an amazing tour guide. In advance of our trip, he made the effort to research our family history and took to us to many areas in and around Manchester that were related to our family that we never would have known about it. He also made sure we saw all the must-see sights in Manchester. John is kind, knowledgeable and overall a great ambassador for Manchester and surrounding areas. His vehicle was clean and comfortable. John is a considerate, knowledgeable and fascinating tour guide. He thoroughly researched the information I sent him on family and provided a clear historical framework of my family's life in Greater Manchester.
