Filip was an outstanding guide. Being born and raised in Kotor, he combined deep local knowledge with genuine enthusiasm for his hometown, bringing the history and culture of the town vividly to life, together with both a historical and contemporary perspective on Montenegro and the former Yugoslavia. The tour struck an excellent balance between historical explanation and modern local insight. We learned about Kotor’s medieval past, Venetian influences, religious heritage and maritime traditions, but also gained a much better understanding of what life is like in Montenegro today. Filip was happy to answer questions on a wide range of topics and provided thoughtful, balanced insights throughout. Particularly enjoyable were the local stories and anecdotes, which added colour and personality to the tour and made the history feel much more connected to the present day. The pace was relaxed, and the entire experience felt like being shown around by a knowledgeable local friend. Despite the relatively short duration, we packed a great deal into our time together. If you want to learn about Kotor itself rather than simply tick off the sights without understanding them, this tour is an excellent choice. We finished with a far deeper appreciation of the town, its history and its people than we could have gained on our own. Filip also suggested activities for the afternoon and ideas for a future visit to Montenegro, which we hope will be considerably longer.
