Hello! I'm a long time American resident of Japan and have lived in big cities like Tokyo, Nagoya and Kyoto, and I also have lived a few years in the lovely Japanese countryside. Every place has its charm, and I've experienced each locale long enough to continuously discover new information about Japan's well known places to visit and also be fascinated by places off the beaten path. I'm an enthusiastic photographer, which to me means finding beauty in things most people pass by. I also enjoy discovering unique characters in Japanese history, especially of those that have transformed Japan's history, culture and politics. And, food and sake complete my love of this amazing culture and country. February is a cold month but it is also the month sake breweries open up for visits and tastings in a lively way. The food is seasonal, so you will enjoy it any time of year. I currently teach at universities where I also learn from my students and fellow professors. I'm also a bit of a foodie and love to discover new street foods and takes on traditional recipes. I'm a former business owner, translator, interpreter, and newspaper reporter, though I still write local news today. In my tours, I customize them according to what my guests want to see, do, experience and taste and all within the time they have available. Current university lecturer 30+ years in Japan Former business owner Member of American Chamber of Commerce Japan Undergraduate study in journalism Graduate study in Political Science/International Relations

Overview of your Nagoya tour

Nagoya is a hard working city and so when it comes to eating, taking time to enjoy food after work is important. One of its classic high end food is chopped roasted eel on a bed of rice, and add a teaspoon of "sansho" (mountain pepper) and you've got a shogun's feast. Unique takes on classics abound in the city, such as dark sweet miso on a fried pork cutlet (miso katsu), udon noodles but stewed in a clay pot with miso (miso nikomi), sweet soft tripe stewed in miso (dote ni). Learn the 4 different ways of eating chicken wings with a slight sweet savory finish, or how to enjoy ramen with a spork! How about a big challenge: Japan's Largest Friend Shrimp 35cm (13.5inch). Take home a local sweet custard made from Nagoya Kochin Chicken eggs!
