First Time in Nagasaki - Full Day Shore Excursion

Masaaki is a very competent guide. There is so much to see in Nagasaki, and Masaaki's commentary provided depth and insights which we really appreciated. Highly recommended!

If you are visiting Nagasaki, we highly recommend hiring Masaaki as your tour guide. He is highly knowledgeable and offers a unique perspective. We had a full day planned and we ended seeing even more sites than we expected. Masaaki tailored the day to meet our interests and likes. The history is this part of Japan is unique, and Masaaki's perspective and background make him an excellent choice if you are looking for a local guide.

We experienced a wonderful day of touring with Masaaki in Nagasaki on March 27, 2026. Masaaki met us at the cruise ship terminal in Nagasaki, and we took a taxi to the Mt. Inasa ropeway where the views of the Nagasaki Bay were great. We then travelled to ground zero where the atomic bomb hit. We chose not to go in the Atomic Bomb museum so focused our time on the Peace Park. The insights provided by Masaaki on what happened and how people adapted afterwards were excellent and respectful. He shared pictures and maps that he used to highlight the historical events that happened here. The Peace Park is an amazing place as it offers a reminder of resilience and the desire of peace. There are fountains and sculptures here from around the world. This park is well worth allocating a good deal of time to experience. We walked to the Urakami Cathedral and looked at the artifacts outside. Masaaki gave us great historical perspective on this church. He then took us to the 26 Martyrs Monument where he provided great insights into their history and importance of the Martyrs. We then went to have a delicious Japanese lunch. After lunch we went to the beautiful Glover Gardens and walked down the hill on our way to visit the Oura Catholic Church. Masaaki explained a great deal about its important role during the rise of Christianity in Japan. It is the oldest standing Christian church in Japan, and it is dedicated to the memory of the 26 Christians who were executed here in 1597. This site was dedicated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its hidden Christian sites in the Nagasaki Region. After this visit, Masaaki walked us back to our ship nearby. Masaaki is an excellent tour guide, and I would highly recommend using him. Overall, I would rate his tour with an A+++!

Masaaki was an outstanding guide. Because his English was so perfect, he was able to communicate with our group at the highest level. He described every place we went with side stories and explanations which made this tour one of our best. He took us off the beaten path and made the day go quickly and completely. His selection of restaurant was outstanding and added greatly to the experience.

We worked with Masaaki to significantly customize this tour. We eliminated the Atomic Bomb museum and Mt Inasa ropeway to focus on the 26 Martyrs and other religious temples and churches. Masaaki delivered an excellent tour that helped us understand the complex environment that the Catholic Church experienced in Japan and Nagasaki in particular. Masaaki also rook us to an excellent tempura restaurant for lunch. He arranged for a taxi for the day to transport us to the door if each site. He also snapped several pictures of us Great job!
