Hello, my name is Masaaki and I have lived in Nagasaki for more than 60 years. When I was 16 years old, I studied at a high school in the USA as an exchange student for one year. More than 2, 000 students from all over the world were studying under the same program and it was a great experience for me to learn about the different cultures of the world through talking with them. I still like to travel and make trips several times a year, domestic and overseas, whenever I am free. During my career, I welcomed numbers of important business clients and colleagues from overseas and it was my duty to show them the history, culture and beauty of port town Nagasaki, surrounded by beautiful nature. It was a great joy for me, just as guiding good old friends from the distant who took trouble to visit Nagasaki to see me! Port town of Nagasaki has a very unique landscape, the port being surrounded by mountains. If you climb up one of the mountains, you can enjoy the spectacular view of the port where your cruise ship is docked. Nagasaki is located at the west end of Japan and closest to Asian Continent (and to Europe also) and this again brought a very unique feature to Nagasaki's history as once "sole international trading port in Japan" during the national seclusion period, which we will discover during the tour. Starting from the mountain, the tour will take you to Nagasaki Peace Park area, cultural heritage area (Glover's Garden, Dejima and etc) which can be seen only in Nagasaki. There are many other places to see, such as various Christian heritage sites. I am ready to customize your tours according to your expectations. Nationally Certified Guide-Interpreter (English,CertNo.EN00069) I am not a professional driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

Overview of your Nagasaki tour

Nagasaki is an international port town uniquely surrounded by a beautiful nature, mountains and a sea, geographically located at the far west end of Japanese Archipelago and closest to Europe through China. It was once the sole international trading port in Japan. In the 16th century, Catholic was propagated to Nagasaki and part of the city was donated to Roman Jesuit, however due to the political and religious struggle, Christianity was totally banned and Nagasaki turned into the place of persecution. However, Japanese Christians had secretly maintained their faith over two centuries. The religious site of these hidden Christians were designated as World Heritage sites in 2018 and Pope Francis visited Nagasaki in 2019 to give a Mass. During the tour, you will see the spectacular scenery of the city and also learn where all the Christian Heritage Sites are located. I will take you to the various heritage sites which make Nagasaki unparalleled.

Our guide, Masaaki Kinoshita, was fabulous! A real scholar of history, Japanese and Nagasakian in particular, he opened our eyes to the historic significance of this city. We were especially interested in the ways in which Nagasaki is an important place of Christian pilgrimage, and Masaaki san illuminated us with the history of the 16th and 20th centuries. We cannot more highly recommend this tour and its excellent guide!

We had an incredible day with Masaaki, going all over Nagasaki to see important historical and religious sites. His English is excellent. He is very knowledgeable about the area and tells engaging anecdotes. We also enjoyed an excellent grilled lunch together. We wish we had time to book another tour with him!

Mack is a wonderfully knowledgeable guide! He crafted our tour to emphasize the sites we were most interested in visiting. He has a personal connection to a couple of Nagasaki’s most notable memorials which made our visit incredibly memorable. Mack has boundless energy, and unlimited stories; we highly recommend him for your Nagasaki visit!

Mack is a marvel, at 80 years old he is awesome! As a native of Nagasaki his knowledge and experiences are phenomenonal! What a powerful experience with this humble, passionate and thorough tour guide. We added off schedule visits to a mall and to Chinatown which Mack was more than happy to accommodate. Don't miss out on this one! Truly inspirational!

Masaaki is a great guide, filling in the gaps of information that are not written in English. If you can list the sites you wish to see, he can arrange them in order. My tour with Masaaki was from 8:30 to 5pm. It was a distance was covered by walking, Tram, Bus, and a taxi. In a logical order. We went to the observation deck by ropeway during the day. He suggested I buy another ticket for night, which I did. I would go there again. Colin
