Overview of your Salerno tour

Join me on a walking tour in the historical center of Salerno. It is my hometown and it's a characteristic sea town located between the paradise of Amalfi Coast and the charming Cilento. As a your personal archaeologist and art historian tour guide I will be happy to share with you my knowledge in an easy and funny way. Salernum was founded by the Romans in the 2nd century B. C. but the most important period for the city was in the middle ages. After the destruction of the Roman Empire in Italy the Lombards created a dukedom in Campania and Salerno became its capital. In this time Salerno was one of the most important cities of the Mediterranean sea. Here was founded the first Medical School around the end of the 9th century A. D. We'll go to discover the history and the architecture of the medieval time with a visit into the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, a spectacular example of Arab-Norman architecture. This church also contains a beautiful crypt in Baroque style. Come visit Salerno!

Roberto's orientation tour of the Old Town of Salerno, Cathedral of St Matthew, and the waterfront was informative and included history, art, architecture, & culture of the city. Recommendations for other sites & restaurants were much appreciated for our 3 day stay. Roberto was knowledgeable & congenial. We loved our tour!

Roberto was a pleasure to have as a guide. A knowledgeable archeologist, he certainly had more than enough information for us. Command of English was great and his intimacy with his home city provided extra color. You can't go wrong with Roberto.

Great tour with Roberto. He was engaging, could answer all our questions about the area, and made the history of the area come alive. Seeing the street art in the old quarter was an amazing addition to our tour.
