Welcome! My name is Roberto. I am an Archaeologist and an official Tour Guide of Italy I obtained bachelor degree in Cultural Heritage, master degree in Classical Archaeology and the diploma of Post-Graduate School in Archeological Heritage. I have been an licensed guide of Campania Region (Italy) since 2011 and I have also worked as an archaeologist all around the Mediterranean sea: Populonia (Livorno, Italy), Paestum (Salerno, Italy), Olbia de Provance (Hyères, Var -France), Efestia (Lemnos, Greece), Phaistos, (Crete, Greece). Since I was a child I loved history of ancient Greeks and Romans and also the Art history from the Middle Ages to the Avanguardie of the '900. I live in Salerno, a characteristic sea town located between the paradise of Amalfi Coast and the charming Cilento. Thanks to my job and passion I working and travelling all over the World discovering different people, cultures and stories. I'm going to offer my knowledge in the art-historical and archaeological field for anyone who wants to understand and investigate the incredible richness of my country. Together we will discover the secrets of ancient Greeks and Romans that already in the past they knew the incomparable beauty of those places. With me you will know also other ancient civilizations and royal families, like Lombards, Normans, Anjous, Aragons and Bourbons, that ruled and enriched the Region with Monuments of incredible beauty and historic value. I'm a member of Slow Food (an international movement that strives to preserve traditional and regional cuisine and encourages farming of plants, seeds and livestock characteristic of the local ecosystem) and so I organize specific tours to those who want to discover the authentic pleasures of wine and traditional food. I also do online pre-trip consultations to help traveller to get their best from their vacations. Availability, preparation and organization are my greatest battle horses to transmit the love that I feel for my country and its history. With this tour you'll see the historical center of Salerno and the archaeological greek site of Paestum After the destruction of the Roman Empire in Italy the Lombards created a dukedom in Campania and Salerno became its capital. In this time Salerno was one of the most important cities of the Mediterrenean sea, Here was founded the first Medical School around the end of the 9th century A. D. We'll go to discover the history and the architecture of the medieval time with a visit into the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, a spectacular example of Arab-Norman architecture. This church also contains a beautiful crypt in Baroque style. After we'll move to Paestum. This archaeological area is now one of the best preserved cities from the times of Greek colonization. I have also worked as an archaeologist here as well! I'll explain you the evolution of this ancient city from the Greeks to the Romans through the ruins of temples dedicated to Athena, Hera, Apollo and Zeus. There is also an incredible National Museum
Roberto was a perfect guide for Paestum and Salerno. This tour was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Roberto was great at interjecting at the right moments to enhance what we were seeing while also giving me enough space and time to enjoy things. Most of all, he was just a genuinely nice person, and it was a pleasure to spend the day with him visiting the area.
Roberto was wonderful! So knowledgeable. We asked questions the entire tour, and it was a long one! He was patient and informative. Paestum is mind boggling. It may be our favorite part of the trip. Worth the train trip to get down there from Sorrento. Salerno was an unexpected pleasure! We explored the medieval portion of the city and beautiful Salerno Cathedral dedicated to Saint Mathew. I would give Roberto 6 stars if it were possible!
Roberto was an excellent guide. He organized the itinerary to fit our schedule. His archaeological background was perfect for the Greek & Roman history of Paestum. Roberto told the historical stories in an engaging manner. We had lunch together and he ordered a collection of local specialties for us to sample. He focused on topics of our interest. Salerno was equally enjoyable. I highly recommend Roberto.
Everyone in our group of six adults loved Roberto as our guide and we loved Paestum! Roberto was knowledgeable, but didn't overwhelm us with facts. He was personable and he set a nice, relaxed pace for the group. We would all highly recommend Roberto to other travelers. In fact, I have already recommended him to two friends who are traveling to this area of Italy later in 2019. Roberto selected a wonderful restaurant for lunch across from the Grecian temples in Paestum--divine!

In the historic center of Salerno we will visit the public gardens, the most important squares of the historical center (Piazza Sedile del Campo, Piazza Abate Conforti, Piazza Flavio Gioia), the Lombard and Norman buidings, the Monumental complex of Saint Peter, the Saint Matthew Cathedral and its baroque crypt. At Paestum during the visit of Archeological Area I'll show you the Ruins of the temples, the Heroon (the tomb of the mythical founder Hero of the Greek city), the Roman Forum and the Roman residential area. In the National Museum I'll explain you the stone frieze that decorated the temple of Hera, some artifacts produced as offerings for gods, armor and weapons of Roman warriors and the painting tombs.
