Hi, I'm Marta an official local guide of Campania Region since 2014. I was born and I live in Salerno, a town in Southern Italy, close to the Amalfi Coast. I'm graduated in Foreign Languages (Arabic, Portuguese and English) and I have a Master Degree in History of Art and Cultural Heritage. I worked in Spain for two years with an Italian Tour Operator. I was selling package holidays to Spanish agencies. In 2014, I took my Tour Guide Licence, because I wanted to change direction with my career as a Tour guide. I started part-time working at the Botanical Garden of Salerno and teaching junior and secondary aged students in Orienteering, an outdoor sport. During this period, the Garden Tours Department asked me to take visitors on two hours tours of Salerno, which lead on to self-organised tours around the historical sites of Campania Region. Today, I do tours around the region, in particular, tours of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Amalfi, Ravello and Paestum. My tours are comprehensive, funny and are designed to inform you about the people, culture and history of this wonderful land. I aim to grab the interest of visitors, deepening the understanding of local history, using the anecdotal history alongside the classical facts. Overview of your Salerno tour
My tour is comprehensive, funny and are designed to inform you about the people, culture and history of this wonderful land. Visit the Medieval district, that with its main street "Via dei Mercanti" is the heart of the town. Full of narrow lanes, full of shops, while the Medieval plan preserves churches and period buildings. The most important monument is the Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Matthew. It's in the Norman style with a Romanic bell tower and the interior is richly decorated in Baroque style, with three naves containing mosaics of XII-XIII century. On the top of the hills that overlook the Golfo of Salerno, the Castle Arechi II rises. It was used by the Norman Duchy Arechi II as a defensive fortress. Today it hosts a small Medieval Museum. A park with paths surrounded it with stunning views of the Amalfi Coast. I was born and I live in Salerno and I can show you the best highlights in this amazing tour. *THIS TOUR CAN BE CUSTOMIZED.

Salerno is really a nice city, honestly much different than I expected in a good way, and well worth staying for a night or two and touring before hopping off to the islands. Marta was great, very knowledgeable and proud of her city, well worth your time to explore with a true local.

Marta provided us a wonderful walking tour of Salerno and Vietra sul Mare. Her deep knowledge of the history, architecture, and culture of these places gave us great insight into these locations. She showed us places that we would never have found on our own. Her flexibility and willingness to adjust the tour to accommodate the uncooperative weather was appreciated. If you are a first-time visitor to Salerno and you try to discover the city without Marta, I am sorry for how much you will miss.
