We has some time in Düsseldorf ahead of our river cruise, so we wanted to find a fun tour that helped us get to know the city and its people better. This was it. Anja is wonderful. You can tell she actually loves this city and isn't just running through a script. Her communication ahead of time was amazing, and she asked what we were into, then shaped the whole tour around us. We started with a little walk, then a visit to Carlsplatz market, which was buzzing even in the rain. I ended up buying some licorice that I'm now rationing because I know I won't find it again at home. So. Good. (We ended up coming back for a great lunch.) From there we wandered into the old town and learned a surprising amount about Düsseldorf mustard along the way. We tasted a few varieties of mustard, and they were a world away from the yellow stuff back home. Then, we popped into a brewery for some proper Alt beer, served along with pickled eggs. It was actually delicious. Anja explained the whole egg prep process, which required vinegar, oil, salt and pepper, and, of course, mustard. Hearing her explain the whole process, was one of those small, weirdly memorable moments you get with great guides. We also visited a shop for tea and sweets, which were out of this world. A cool French pastry shop that was full in the middle of the day. Book this tour. It's amazing.
