Sc. degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. I also studied in the field of Developing Tourism in Small State Islands. My Dissertation is on Interpretation of Cultural heritage- A visitors authentic experience. I have 31 years of teaching experience in the fields of hospitality and tourism in private and public tertiary education. My research activities focus on Cultural Heritage Tourism, Interpretation of Heritage Sites, and Visitors' Authentic experience. I am a world traveling Cypriot passionate about nature and cultural heritage. I am a co-author of the books "Culinary Cultures of Europe - Identity, Diversity and Dialogue" Council of Europe 2005, European Cookery- "Tradition and Innovation" (2004) and an author in many articles related to tourism. I worked as an international group leader for 27 years and I am a member of the organizing committee of ICOT (International Conference on Tourism) since 2008 around the world. Pick up from Larnaca The tour will cover a region which is characterized by one of the largest groups of churches and monasteries of the former Byzantine Empire. The World Heritage List churches are all richly decorated with murals and provide an overview of Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting in Cyprus. They range from small churches whose rural architectural style is in stark contrast to their highly refined decoration, to monasteries such as that of St John Lampadistis. You are also given the opportunity to cross the beautiful villages of Moutoulas and Pedoulas and travel through the dense forest of Troodos mountains and the picturesque valleys of Marathasa and Solea. Churches to be visited are also St. Nicholas of the roof, Panayia tis Podithou, Archangelos, Archangelos of Pedoulas and Panagia tou Pedoula. Our last stop will be at the famous medieval village of Kakopetria with its stony houses and narrow streets. Drop off to Paphos
This was our 4th day to have the good fortune to have Savvas as our leader and guide. The mountains, with streams and wooded trails were refreshing and the UNESCO churches were not only historic, they were richly decorated. Savvas has broad and deep knowledge of both world history and religion. This day was well beyond our expectations.
As a university professor and from a family who were twice refugees--first from western Turkey and then northern Cyprus--Savvas could share with us a unique perspective of the past as well as help us understand current life such as weddings etc. He was also willing to adjust the agenda when part way through one of our group wanted to next go to Lemesos, a city on the sea, rather than see more churches. Savvas let us photograph the aqueduct coming into Lanarca and negotiated soccer crazy traffic there.
