Explore Kyrenia your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Kyrenia tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Kyrenia for every interest, including:

History tours: Climb the ramparts of Kyrenia Castle and see the 4th-century BC shipwreck at the Shipwreck Museum on a private tour, then continue to Bellapais Abbey to explore its Gothic cloister. Your guide can also lead you up to St. Hilarion or Buffavento Castle for Crusader stories and sweeping views.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Hike the Besparmak (Five Finger) mountain trails to spot spring orchids and Cyprus wheatears, or join a night visit with conservation volunteers at Alagadi Turtle Beach to watch hatchlings reach the sea in season. You can also take a small boat along the Lapta coast to swim quiet coves and look for marine life in clear water.

Adventure tours: Tackle rocky paths to hilltop ruins or go mountain biking on singletrack in the Kyrenia range with a guide who knows the safest lines. Prefer the sea? Try tandem kayaking along the coast or a tandem paragliding flight from the mountains down to the shore on private adventure tours.

The harbour area is easy to cover on foot, but buses are limited and mountain sites are spread out. For longer distances, you can book chauffeured tours or tours with private transportation, or ask your local guide to arrange a private vehicle.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Kyrenia inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Kyrenia

From Kyrenia, short rides put you at hilltop castles, quiet abbey ruins, and long beaches, so you can plan day trips that fit your pace and interests with your tour set around daylight and traffic.

Bellapais Abbey and Village: Explore Gothic arches, sip a coffee in the square, and take in wide views over the coast. If you like calm places with a bit of history and local life, your guide can share context that brings the stones to life without lingering too long.

St Hilarion Castle: Climb the steps to ramparts and look over the Five Finger range and the sea. This is great for light hikers and photographers, and your tour can balance time between the lower rooms and the upper lookout.

Famagusta and Salamis: Walk Famagusta’s walled streets to see Othello’s Tower and Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, then continue to Salamis for theatres, baths, and mosaics. History fans get a full arc in one day, and your guide can keep the route efficient.

Karpaz Peninsula: Drive to quiet coves and long sand at Golden Beach, meet the famous donkeys, and visit Apostolos Andreas Monastery at the tip. If you want space and nature, this day is about open roads and unhurried stops.

Nicosia Old City: Step inside the Venetian walls for markets, Büyük Han, and Selimiye Mosque. City explorers can mix street food with small museums, and your tour can focus on neighbourhoods that match what you like to see.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Kyrenia most travellers miss.
