Hi there! I've been working as a guide in the Atacama desert since 2009, I used to work as a driverguide for different tour agencies and some hotels in San Pedro de Atacama, so thanks to that, I know every corner of this region and every place to visit, like Geysers, Andean lagoons, Wetlands, Salt flats, landscapes that look like other planets, hypersaline lagoons where you can float effortlessly, and many others. From late 2018, I'm working independently, with my own vehicle; a Toyota 4runner 4WD, up to 4 passengers plus the driver. Now a days, I'm providing privates tours away from the crowds in different timings, fully customized, depending on the special interests the travelers may have, like Bird-watching, Photography, Wildlife, Culture, Geology, Stargazing among others. On the way to the Rainbow Valley and Yerbas Buenas, there might be herds of wild guanacos by the road, for sure flock of birds flying around, in a beautiful and colorful scenery. In Yerbas Buenas there are ancient engravings made by the "Atacameños", this place is one of the most important archaeological sites to visit. They traveled long distances from the Atacama salt flat in caravans with llamas, they carried their goods to exchange with tribes living by the Loa river. Rainbow valley, hills made of clay with plutonic rocks, make the scenery unreal, it looks like the landscape from a science fiction movie.
This is the third tour we had with Juan in two days. We truly enjoyed his company and the knowledge that he has about the geology, history and culture of the area. The viewpoint he took us to watch the sunset is unbeatable. We were the only people there and the view of the valley below and the sunset without the crowd is fantastic. Highly recommend Juan as your guide.

Juan is literally the best! We wrote to him with a very ambitious list of things my friend and I wanted to see and experience with only 2.5 days in San Pedro de Atacama. Not only did Juan deliver on everything we wanted, but he made us feel so special. We always visited places when hardly anybody was there. He set up beautiful snacks and meals for us every day. He knew literally everything about Chile. Ultimately Juan treated us like friends and the time we spent with him was priceless. Thank you Juan!!
Juan was a wonderful guide and we really enjoyed our time with him. He was super friendly, knowledgeable, and punctual. His English was great. We felt that he made sure we had the best experience possible, pointing out so many interesting sites on our drive. He even set up a picnic in the most beautiful setting with delicious food and wine. We would highly recommend Juan for any of the tours of the region.
Juan was an absolutely wonderful guide and really brought the area "to life" for us. He was a wealth of knowledge about how the Rainbow Valley evolved and what caused the different colors in the rock formations. It was also a special treat to see the petroglyphs and he was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of these historic etchings. He was also a pleasure to spend time with which we feel is a huge plus.
Rainbow Valley will leave you speechless and you're missing out if you don't have Juan there to explain and show it to you. He will also spoil you with some amazing food and the right beverage to complement it :)!
- Pick up from your hotel and driving around 70 kms. - Crossing the Salt mountain range, driving through the Patience Valley, going up through the Domeyko mountain range, the driest of the world, to 11.500 ft (3500 mt) AMSL. - Depending on the time of the day, we'll go first to Rainbow Valley or Yerbas Buenas to see the petroglyphs, is all about colors and light. - On the way back we'll stop in front of the Andes mountain range, in a look out above Moon Valley. The itinerary can be customized according to your preferences and interests.
