Bonjour !! My name is Louis. My french ancestors came to Ville-Marie in 1708 and my family has been living in Montréal since then. I'm a seasoned touristic guide with 30 years of experience in tourism. I started as a tour leader with french company Club Med in the 1980's. This allowed me to travel and discover many different countries such as Morrocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Senegal, French Polynesia, Bahamas, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Mexico. I came back to settle down in Montréal for good in the early 1990's. Then, I was a tour leader in the eastern part of Canada (provinces ofQuébec and Ontario) and New England (New-York city, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D. C. mostly). I've been a Montréal's city licensed tour guide since 1997. I'm passionately in love with this city of mine -the only one in North America that offers both french and english cultures. I sincerely would like to share this passion with you. Come to discover the old historic district with me !! I've been a Montréal's city licensed tour guide since 1997.

I've live most of my life in Montreal and the Old Montreal was part of different episodes of my life from teen age to now. I can tell you about some of my "firsts" that took place here and there. Being of french descend (twelfth generation dating back to the French Regime) and having very firm opinion on relationships between the two mainstream linguistic and cultural group -francophones and anglophones- it definitely will be reflected in my historical perspective. Relationships between the French and the Native's First Nation will be treated as well. I'm passionate about architecture and this will be a very important part of my presentation.
My preferred meeting point is Victoria square from which we can start the tour. We will see: - World Trade Center : the most exquisite modern building from the early 1990's St-Jacques street once nicknamed the "Canadian Wall Street", where time has frozen in the early 20th century ; - If time allows : Pointe à-Caillière, the founding ground of Ville-Marie in 1642 and the Old Port Park. - Place D'Armes and its monuments dating from French Regime to 20th century; the seminary of the order of Sulpician and Notre-Dame Basilica THE jewel of religious architecture in Montreal and probably of all Canada ; the splendid Art Deco 28 stories Aldred Building; Place Jacques-Cartier, the hub of touristic old town and former public market from the early 1800's to 1965. - Marché Bonsecours and its local arts and crafts shops: very likely the ending point of the tour. A very thorough historical and architectural tour. Depending on your pace, more or less of the described tour can be seen!
