Around 1900, Manaus was the wealthiest town in South America and one of the most modern ones worldwide. It was the rubber industry what turned some of the inhabitants of this town into millionaires! Manaus was the first city in South America which had electricity and a modern tramway. On this tour, I will take you to the market halls where fresh fish & fruits are being traded. This is one of my favourite places, as it is so lively! Another stop will be at the Rio Negro palace, where a German rubber baron lived! Today this 22-room building hosts a museum with stunning gardens. A the market of origins, I will also help you uncover how cement was made to build the warehouses where the rubber was stored. In addition to this, you'll get the chance to experience what it's like to step inside the nicest theatre of Brazil! Every time I enter this monument, I remember my very first visit, about 40 years ago! It was like magic to me since I felt myself back in the 1900s!
