Ninth Generation Nashvillian who is an expert on all things Nashville including Country Music, Civil Rights Woman's Suffrage, Architecture, Business history, Higher Education history, Business history, Sports, and local museums. I have lived in Nashville my entire life and I am seen and the go to person for Nashville history and tours. I am a Historian and have the largest private collection of Nashville memorabilia and many are currently on display at the Parthenon. Tour by a 9th Generation Nashvillian who was named the "Best Nashville Historian" in 2018 by the Nashville Scene. I have been on the Nashville Historical Commission, Historic Zoning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals where I was Chairman. I am also a LEED AP BD+C. I have studied the construction and preservation of Nashville's historic buildings along with the famous architects who built them. The history man inside of the building will also be told on the tour make the stories of these historic building come alive. We will cover the famous Greek Revival buildings, Victorian Structures, Beaux Arts, Art Deco and Mid Century Buildings of Downtown Nashville. The tour will also discuss McKissack & McKissack the oldest African American architecture firm in the U. S. which was founded in Nashville. We will see one of their most famous local buildings. Nashville's downtown has great diversity in architecture and most of these buildings have been beautifully restored.
Start at the Nashville Public Library and we see the oldest building in the area including the Tennessee State Capitol, St. Mary's Church and the Hermitage Hotel. See the historic Courthouses of the 1930's including the Tennessee Supreme Court and Metro Court House. Our Mid Century tour will include the Municipal Auditorium and WTVF television station where Oprah Winfrey had her first job in television. The last remaining African American designed commercial building downtown the Morris Building will be viewed. The tour will continue to the historic Victorian Structure of 1st, 2nd and Lower Broadway which are part of the Nashville commercial district. Other signiant structures will include the Symphony Hall, Nashville Arcade, Ryman Auditorium, L&C Tower and AT&T Building and the Custom's House. This tour can be customized as well.
