Created especially for Women’s History Month, this immersive downtown walking tour reveals the bold, surprising, and trailblazing women who helped shape Salt Lake City, from Temple Square to the Capitol. This special Women’s History Month tour shines a spotlight on some of the women who played a role in the history of Salt Lake City. From early Mormon pioneers, to modern day artists, and from madams and entertainers in the old red-light district to the first woman to cast a vote in Utah and the US... from a black pioneer to a Shoshone story teller... these are the women you'll learn about on this special tour. This tour weaves together faith, suffrage, race, politics, art, performance, and power, offering a richer, more human story of Salt Lake City.
·The tour begins on the plaza in front of Abravanel Hall (home of the Utah Symphony), from where we'll walk to Main Street. He'll you'll discover the story of 4 exceptional pioneer woman who made the journey west in the mid 1800s. ·We will head south on Main Street to Regent street, where we'll discover an artist and two entertainers. ·Next, we continue our stroll towards State Street where we will catch the bus for a short ride to the Utah State Capitol. ·We will have a short visit inside the Capitol, where we'll discover some prominent women in Utah's government. From this building, you'll also enjoy a panoramic view of the Salt Lake Valley and hear the story of the indigenous women that called this area home. ·Our walk then continues along State Street towards Temple Square. ·We'll proceed to go around the south side of Temple Square and see the Beehive and Lion House, residences of our final women in the spotlight on this tour. ·The tour will end once we've walked back to our starting point.
