West Mainland and Shetland Ponies Shore Excursion

This tour begins in Shetland's main town of Lerwick, where we will visit the picturesque south end of Commercial Street. We'll visit the Lodberries which have their foundations built into the sea; the Town Hall, with its impressive stained glass windows, and see townhouses which were built at the turn of the century. From here we will head west, and to Scalloway - the former capital of Shetland, where we'll visit the 17th century Castle. Here you can learn about the Shetland Bus, a clandestine operation between occupied Norway and Shetland during the WWII, and other displays of local history. We'll also visit and learn about Shetland ponies - potentially our most famous export and definitely our cutest! You will learn all about the breed's history. I have lived in Shetland all my life and this tour will give you an excellent overview of our islands, culture, heritage and striking scenery. You will even hear our unique dialect and maybe pick up a few words on the way. I have a wealth knowledge to share!

This tour begins in Shetland's main town of Lerwick, where we will give you a driving/photo stops of each point of interest. We then drive about 15 mins for beautiful viewpoints for photo opportunities. From here we will head west, and to Scalloway another 5 mins drive where we will have an hour and half to explore the Castle , Museum and Fishing village. We'll also visit and learn about Shetland ponies , stopping up close and personal for photos and petting. Then heading back to Lerwick the main town where your ship will be berthed. This tour consists of short easy walking.
