I have lived in Shetland all my life where I have raised three grown up boys with my Husband. Discover South Mainland from Lerwick
Overview of your Lerwick tour
Our tour of Shetland's South Mainland will take in scenic beaches, archaeology, wildlife, knitwear and local history. We will start the tour by exploring views of Mousa (An Iron Age Broch) and a guided tour Jarlshof (A fascinating prehistoric archaeological site featuring settlements from periods ranging from the Neolithic era to the 16th century). We will then head to Sumbrugh to venture the dramatic cliff tops and thousands of seabirds. Then we will head North to a local knitwear visiting centre. Finally, we will finish in Lerwick (Shetlands Capital) and spend a short time visiting the picturesque "Lodberries" including hidden smugglers tunnels, which date back to the 17th century and have their foundations built in the sea. This tour will give you a great insight about our beautiful Island mixed with my local knowledge makes this tour unforgettable. Born and bred Shetlander with a passion for the Isles and having explored every corner of our Island, I can take you places that others will never find!

Couldn’t be better! The scenery was breathtaking. Lara, our guide was lovely and charming. She’s a Shetland native and knows every inch of the island. She drove us around for a four hour tour in a beautiful new Range Rover Defender. If you’re visiting Lerwick, she’s your gal!

Ponies, Puffins, and Prehistoric Ruins! What a day we had with Lara! For the most part, and unusually, we had great weather (for Shetland) and it only rained on us - of course- when we were at Jarlshof. Lara took that in stride and kept us sheltered while still imparting the history of the site from the neolithic period right up to the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons. Happily, the showers stopped for our visit to the cliffs and puffins. Lara was a delight, and as a native Shetlander, she had many stories to share. The mini-bus was perfect for the 8 of us (it has a capacity of 11, so very spacious) and was the most comfortable and easiest access (we had some mobility challenged folks on the tour) of any tour vehicle we had on the cruise. Highly recommend this tour for those who want to see a bit more of the island than just Lerwick, and Lara for any of the tours she offers!
Your Lerwick tour itinerary
This tour will leave Lerwick where we will drive for about 20 mins for our first stop of the "Mousa Broch" for a photo opportunity, then travel on for 15 mins to the East side of the Island to discover "St Ninians Isle" with hidden treasure for another 5 minute stop. Onwards to The very South of the Island for a 15 minute drive to visit "Jarlshof" the ancient site dating back to the Stoneage , we will spend an hour here and the walk around is very easy. We then head to the Cliffs driving for 5 minutes to view the seabirds including the "Tammie Norie" or Puffin and spend 15 minutes exploring the Cliffs , again very easy as I can take you to the top in my vehicle. Back in the vehicle for a 20 minute drive North to sample some of our unique Kinitwear for approx 15 minutes. We will then drive back to Lerwick which takes 20 mins via a good few photo stops around our main town including the"Lodberries " where my mother was brought up! Dropping you off at your Ship or your point of choice in Lerwick.
