Hello, My name is Anita and I am a native Shetlander who is proud and enthusiastic to show off my homeland. I was born and brought up in Shetland and my family lives and works here. Prior to becoming a Tourist Guide, I worked in schools doing Learning Support; as a Carer for the elderly; as an Operations Supervisor in the seafood industry and as Senior Passenger Services Officer at the airport. I decided to become a full-time Tourist Guide for two main reasons: Firstly, I love to show off Shetland's scenery & nature, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of the local history, culture, modern life & work in Shetland. Secondly, I find it very interesting to meet new people from all over the world and hear about their life at home! My local knowledge means you will be able to enjoy a privately curated tour that hopefully avoids all the crowds. I am proud to have 5 star reviews on Google and other sites. I have a friendly, relaxed approach and provide a quality service that puts your needs firmly at the centre, to ensure making the best of your time in Shetland. All my tours are fully customizable and I will communicate well with you beforehand to curate your own special adventure. When I'm not out with my guests exploring these beautiful islands, I like to spend time with the family (including babysitting and dogsitting!), knit traditional Fair Isle, cook, sew and travel. I always enjoy learning new things and enjoy refreshing & updating my CPD over the winter months via the Shetland Heritage Association and other providers. I hope you decide to join me for a trip to discover the spirit of Shetland, whether it is for part of a day, a full day or a few days. I look forward to sharing all that my beautiful island home has to offer, and I am confident you will leave with memories that will last a lifetime. Come on a popular and comprehensive tour of the best of Shetland's south mainland, which boasts amazing scenery, seabird colonies and fascinating history. This is the tour for you, especially if you only have one day in Shetland and have a variety of interests. I will take you past the oldest houses in Lerwick (The Lodberries), which are built out into the sea. Here you will see the home of the fictional detective Jimmy Perez from the drama series 'Shetland' which is in fact owned and inhabited by my first cousin! I can tell you extra stories about the home from my family's perspective! Also, let me take you to St. Ninians Isle, the best example of a shell sand tombolo in the British Isles. The beach there is breathtaking, and you'll have time for a short walk on the sand if you wish! We'll also take in astonishing viewpoints, marvelat a seal beach, bird cliffs, a lighthouse, shopping, food and a view across the water to the uninhabited island of Mousa where the world's best preserved Broch can be found.
·After pick-up, our scenic tour makes its first stop at the historic Lodberries in Lerwick old town. ·Leaving town, we head south passing picturesque rural townships and stop at the stunning Mousa viewpoint. ·We continue southwards and branch off to the rugged Atlantic coast to see St. Ninians Isle, which became famous when a Pictish silver treasure trove was discovered there in 1958. ·A mile or so south, we stop at the viewpoint overlooking Rerwick Beach, which is where we normally find some seals sunbathing. ·From here we head to the spectacular bird cliffs at Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, built in 1929, to see the vast colonies of seabirds and for some more photo opportunities. ·On the way back north, we stop at the pretty village of Hoswick for refreshments/lunch at the visitor centre, which has interesting historical displays and a gift shop. There are also two top quality knitwear shops and a jewellery workshop in the village! ·Finally I'll drop you off in town. This itinerary could be customized.
