Hello, My name is Anita and I am a native Shetlander who is proud and enthusiastic to show off my homeland. I was born and brought up in Shetland and my family lives and works here. Prior to becoming a Tourist Guide, I worked in schools doing Learning Support; as a Carer for the elderly; as an Operations Supervisor in the seafood industry and as Senior Passenger Services Officer at the airport. I decided to become a full-time Tourist Guide for two main reasons: Firstly, I love to show off Shetland's scenery & nature, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of the local history, culture, modern life & work in Shetland. Secondly, I find it very interesting to meet new people from all over the world and hear about their life at home! My local knowledge means you will be able to enjoy a privately curated tour that hopefully avoids all the crowds. I am proud to have 5 star reviews on Google and other sites. I have a friendly, relaxed approach and provide a quality service that puts your needs firmly at the centre, to ensure making the best of your time in Shetland. All my tours are fully customizable and I will communicate well with you beforehand to curate your own special adventure. When I'm not out with my guests exploring these beautiful islands, I like to spend time with the family (including babysitting and dogsitting!), knit traditional Fair Isle, cook, sew and travel. I always enjoy learning new things and enjoy refreshing & updating my CPD over the winter months via the Shetland Heritage Association and other providers. I hope you decide to join me for a trip to discover the spirit of Shetland, whether it is for part of a day, a full day or a few days. I look forward to sharing all that my beautiful island home has to offer, and I am confident you will leave with memories that will last a lifetime. Green Badge Tourist Guide (Accredited) with the Scottish Tourist Guides Association (STGA) Member of Shetland Tourism Association (STA) Member of Shetland Islands Tourist Guides Association (SITGA) Six years experience working with shore excursion companies I am an experienced driver and insured as a driver guide Rescue Emergency Care (REC) - Outdoor First Aid: - valid till 19th November 2026 None.

Overview of your Lerwick tour

Let's drive northwest through the Shetland mainland to the scenic parish of Northmavine, where we'll marvel at the wild rock scenery of the Atlantic coast. The area's rocky red granite geology becomes apparent alongside green fields and sheltered voes. Towering sea-stacks & natural arches are to be seen along the way too. Huge cliffs & expansive vistas await us at the Eshaness Lighthouse where you can capture the most dramatic shots of your holiday. Besides, a trip to the quaint Tangwick Haa museum & gift shop offers the chance to learn some local history too. We'll also have a wonderful, relaxing lunch in Brae at the award winning Frankie's Fish & Chip Shop, the most northerly fish & chip shop in the UK. You can be sure of the freshest produce as the owners also own their own fishing vessel which supplies the restaurant. On the way back south, I'll drive you through my home village in the beautiful Weisdale valley, where I'll tell you about about culture, heritage and life today for Shetlanders like me.

Your Lerwick tour itinerary

·After pickup, our drive takes us through wild heathery hillsides as we pass the picturesque village of Voe & Brae, en route to Mavis Grind: the gateway to Northmavine. ·In Northmavine, you can see the Atlantic Ocean & the North Sea almost meet as we drive over a narrow neck of land only around 100 ms wide, where Vikings & fisherman portaged their boats over the centuries. ·Ever present on the skyline as we head north, is Shetland highest hill: Ronas Hill. ·A photo stop for the spectacular sea-stacks 'The Drongs' is essential before we reach the clifftops at Eshaness, the flank of an ancient volcano. ·Later, you will have time to enjoy the view from a lighthouse and go on an optional 15 minute coastal walk where seabirds can been seen gliding closely past. ·Then onto Tangwick to the quaint and informative museum in a former lairds house from the 1600's. ·Next, we return to Brae to have lunch Frankie's before heading back to Lerwick. This itinerary could be customized upon request.
