The Lagos de Covadonga are the main tourist attraction of Asturias. No wonder, because visiting the lakes and their surroundings immerse you in Asturias' unique historical, spiritual and natural heritage you don't want to miss! With my background in environmental sciences, I can also tell you everything about the genesis and (natural) history of Spain's first NP and its current meaning for Asturian flora and fauna. This full day tour leads you from Cangas de Onis via Covadonga into the mountains to the most visited part of the Picos de Europa. Cangas de Onís village is one of the gateways into Picos de Europa National Park. Its (restored) Roman bridge with the Victory Cross hanging below is one of the most photographed monuments of Asturias: here you will shoot good holiday memories! In Covadonga you'll see the Santa Cueva de Covadonga, a cave that is home to the Virgin of Covadonga, a neo-Romanesque chapel and the tomb of King Pelayo I of Asturias, before we drive into the mountains at 3, 720ft.
- Pick up in Oviedo/Gijon/Aviles/. . . (flexible) - Start of the tour in Cangas de Onís and visit Roman bridge with the Victory Cross - Visit to Covadonga: Santa Cueva de Covadonga, natural pool and neo-Romanesque Basílica de Santa María la Real de Covadonga. - Visit and walk Lagos de Covadonga. Depending on your preferences, we can visit an old silver mine, the local Visitors Center, and/or go for a hike to the lakes and its surrounding pastures. -Lunch in a local restaurant overlooking the lakes and the mountains - Return to hotel/cruiseship/airport/. . . by private vehicle.
