Overview of your Skopje tour
The best way to experience Matka Canyon is by going up the cliffs and getting to a point with a view on the canyon. This tour is exactly that: a visit to Matka Canyon with a nature hike to several viewpoints, away from the crowds. This tour will take you along mountain paths that are fairly steep and stony, so be prepared for a close to wilderness type of a walk. Along our way we will see several cultural monuments, learn about the local flora (plants), and get to some serious rocky terrain to get a good view. The total hike can be from 3,5 to 6 km, depending on your wishes for a restaurant, and your fitness level. In this tour we will utilize taxi transportation, so we can be free to finish at any point, different from our beginning. In the summer period, we have the option to swim in the cold water of River Treska.
Your Skopje tour itinerary
We start in Skopje, and take a taxi to Matka Canyon. On this tour we will visit the site that is most popular tourist destination near Skopje: Matka Canyon, with the Lake Matka and the 14 century church of St Andrew. A bout tour of Lake Matka is optional. Then we will hike to St Nikola's Monastery, wherefrom we will climb to the rocks above to get an awesome view of the Canyon. After that we will walk down to a restaurant to have a well deserved break and a meal. When we a re ready, we call the taxi to pick us up and take us back.
