I had a fantastic day with Vittorio as we explored Etna. He picked me up at my Taormina hotel and took me to several fascinating sites on the volcano while detailing the geology that explained what we were seeing. Then we stopped midday for an awesome visit to a vineyard (voted one of the most beautiful in the world) which included a wine tasting and three course lunch. I met several members of the winery ownership team and enjoyed learning a bit more about their family business. Then it was off to the beautiful nearby gorge for a brief overlook and explanation of its origins. I could have spent more time there actually walking in the stream but chose to spend more time drinking the wonderful wine!. All in all, it was a perfect introduction to Etna. When I return, I plan on visiting the summit which takes a bit more time than I had planned for this trip.
