Jewish Settlements in Salento from Lecce - Private Full Day Tour

An Important Jewish community settled in Lecce between the XVth and XVI century, a very wealthy trading period for the town. Unfortunately the anti Jewish laws issued by Ferdinand I and Charles V made pogroms begin and the leccese Jewish community was persecuted and forced to leave Salento. During my tour you will discover all the different areas of the old Jewish neighborhood from the Medieval times, when the jewish colony was welcomed by locals to the renaissance period when jewish people held their markets. We will also visit the Beautiful sea town of St. Maria al Bagno, where the Memory Transit Camp Museum is Located. I have been delivering this tour since 2016, when I also organized the exhibits "Jewish settlements in Salento the hidden story" in Lecce. It is a very specific tour where visitors can experience an unusual part of the history, usually covered by the Latinization system imposed since the coming of the Spanish (XVI century).
