Hello, I'm Andrea, a native Sicilian born and raised up between the Sicilian saltwater and the Etna Volcano slope. My passion for adventure, hiking, and sportfishing together always pushed me to walk the extra mile, exploring and interpreting lots of hidden spots of the Sicilian territory. Doing this I met a lot of bizarre local people and discovered extraordinary forgotten paths, now part of each itinerary. My Architect and Uban planner background if useful when it comes to design new itineraries and understand the layers of history in our towns! My passion and part of my work is the sportfishing, both from shore and from the boat. I love to take guests to my world sometimes, teaching them, for example, how to fish for octopus barehanded! To guide travelers to discover my island, for me is not just a job, this is the greatest opportunity I got in my life. And luckily for them, I put all my passion for showing the beauty of Sicily!On the other side, this work gives the chance to meet to exchange with beautiful people, turning yourself in another person, day after day. I love this. The eastern side of Sicily is spectacular. A super active volcano that dominates a gulf with dark blue waters, Etna; an epic city with a uniquely charming atmosphere, because of its "layers" still visible underneath and above the ground level, Catania; eternal towns, lived and traveled from millennia, like Taormina, Acitrezza, Siracusa and so on; spectacular surroundings full of nature, traditions, and legends. Wow, we lucked out with our tour guide. Andrea, like so many of his guide colleagues at Tours By Locals, love showing and sharing their home cities. Andrea went out of his way to show us Taormina, Mt Etna and the surrounding area. His was engaging and responsive to all and any questions. If you select Andrea as your guide, you will not be disappointed, he loves what he does, and it shows. Bravo Andrea!!!
I have to start by saying that Andrea was not good, not excellent, he was superb! We started our day the day before in Catania with him, and we did half a day tour walking through the city. Andrea took us to places that we would’ve never been able to see if it wasn’t because of him. Moreover, he was not only knowledgeable and very explicit about the tour itself, but he was also very particular on details and history. The highlight came when he took us to visit the volcano. Prior to starting that leg of the tour, Andrea took us around the city and through the skirts of the volcano. He gave us a thorough history of how the city evolved from the first eruption and on the present day. We then went up to the volcano and climbed up to 2500 meters. Andrea also gave us great recommendations where to eat and where to go at night. Andrea there was definitely a perfect 10!!!
Absolutely wonderful experience with Andrea. A perfect day of exploring Mount Etna and Taormina area. Very flexible and accommodating guide with lots of good information and palpable passion for this beautiful part of Sicily. Highly recommend for everyone: those who want to hike to the highest reachable areas, or those like us , who prefer less strenuous activity. Lots of great memories made. Very much enjoyed stops at smaller towns and villages and learning about history and also modern life on the slopes of active volcano. Don’t miss this when in Sicily.
This tour was an exceptional experience, certainly true to its title of a "Grand Tour of Sicily" and exceeding our expectations in every way. Andrea's knowledge of Mt. Etna and Taormina was impressive, his warm welcoming nature, and introduction to his country was outstanding! This tour was one of the highlights of our trip!
Our guide was amazing. Super fun and educational. He loves his country and it shows! Highly recommend. BTW: Etna is really high. Pack warm clothes and sturdy shoes.
Our family tour with Andrea was fantastic! He is so knowledgeable about all things Etna. We learned so much! He never rushed us and was so pleasant to be around. He took us off the beaten path so that we were not mired in big tourist crowds. A very personal tour that we highly recommend.
The itinerary departure may be very flexible, based on the guest's preferences. Some of the places to visit may require some walking and some are just close to where we stop with the vehicle. It includes: - The highest point on Etna at 2000m o. s. l. with so many changing landscapes to expect. It is possible to experience more than 10C° excursion depending on the season. - Volcanic craters, lava tubes, eruption valleys. In the Taormina area, we will have the chance to visit: - The Greek-Roman theatre. - The Odeon. - The main point of interest in the town. - Castelmola, with a lot of surprising spots, "legendary" panoramas and some must-visit places. - Giardini Naxos is a possible stop, depending on the time at disposal. You'll also get an overview of the Geology of the area. Guests can choose to stop for a typical lunch or a wine taste on the way. In case of rain, is possible to run the tour, thanks to the high number of indoor and sheltered sites.
