I live close to the beautiful town of Killarney. I qualified with a BA(hons) at the National University of Ireland - University College Cork. By studying History and Geography locally, I have lots of extra local knowledge to share with guests on my tours. I completed my masters (MSc) in Dublin, so have also spent time in our capital city. I am married with 2 children, and have 20 years experience in tourism throughout Ireland. I have guided for many world famous tour companies, from student groups to VIP tours. For the last 5 years I have been a tour guide in my local area, and love guiding private tours and ensuring everyone has a great time. The most important thing for me is that everyone who joins my tour has a great time. The great thing about a private tour, is that you can decide how much information and commentary you wish me to share with you, but I am equally happy for us to relax and listen to some great Irish music! I am happy to adapt the tour to reflect your interests and requirements! As we travel together on the tour, I am always happy to make as many stops as you wish, for photos or to just to get out and stretch the legs! I find it is the stops that were not planned that are often the most enjoyable! My local knowledge means I can often recommend hidden gems along the route, making your tour even more special! This tour departs from Killarney or Kenmare in County Kerry, and allows you to explore the best of the Cork region. We visit Cork City, Blarney and the historic town of Cobh. We will start the day in Cork City, the Southern Capital, with a guided panoramic tour. We will then drive along the the famous Cork harbour, said to be the second largest natural harbour in the world. We can stop at some local historic towns, and see a little of the beautiful countryside. We will also visit Blarney Castle if you wish, and kiss the Blarney Stone!
In a word, Michael was perfect. Right on time for our pick up. Familiar with Cork (our accommodation) and very familiar with Beara. Well-informed on everything we wanted to discuss, and happy to adjust the schedule in an easy-mannered way. Our tour exceeded the time allotted, and we appreciated his flexibility. Michael was a great guide. He had great suggestions while planning and we knew we were in good hands. Michael took general input on our objectives and developed a highly enjoyable day of sight seeing. He picked us up promptly and reviewed the plan to see Cork, Cobh and Kinsale. We then set off with his enthusiastic narration through out the rest of the day. He easily discussed both historical and current topics and was very engaging. We highly recommend him and would enjoy another tour with him!
Michael took me on a tour of Cobh, Cork and Kinsale. He pointed out the historical landmarks and described the history. He was knowledgable about ther area. And as a bonus he took me to the most southern point of Ireland with a drive of awesome vistas! Now I can claim to have been at all the farthest points of mainland Ireland! He's friendly and courteous.
We had a fantastic tour with Michael. He was professional with all logistics and went above and beyond in doing research and providing puzzle pieces in our quest to find family roots in remote villages. It was an excellent adventure and our family was fascinated by the ability to find an ancestral home, which may not have been possible without the help of Michael. I would recommend his service to anyone who asked.
-We meet at your hotel/accommodation if it is nearby, or else we can meet at the Train Station! -After that you decide the itinerary! We can visit the many sites of the city together! We can drive all or part of the city tour, or walk if you prefer! -If you wish to have lunch on the way, or just a sandwich, I will point out great places that locals love in the city! If you fancy a drink in a local famous pub, we can do that too! -Outside the city, we can take a drive to Cork Harbour, maybe visit the famous town of Cobh or if you wish we can go to kiss the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle in the afternoon when all the crowds have gone! Its your tour, and I am flexible with what we see and do!
