We engaged Tours by Locals because we had limited time and we needed a custom experience. My wife and I and our two adult children (26 and 30) had a special request – we wanted Maurice to take us to the townland of Coolnashamroge – about 20 minutes from Cork city – to visit the area where my great grandfather was born in 1849. Be warned, Maurice lives in the Cork area and is proud of all people and things from the area – which I think is exactly what you want when you visit Cork! Maurice picked us up at our hotel in Cork and whisked us away to the countryside. Maurice created a custom itinerary for us around my great grandfather’s journey from Ireland to America. Not only was he excited about supporting our family history quest, but he called a friend to do some additional genealogical research on my local ancestors. Maurice is high energy, very engaging, knows everyone, and has a deep pool of knowledge on all things related to Cork, Kinsale and the surrounding area. He engaged us in interesting stories about the people, history and culture of the area. After our remarkable and memorable trip to Coolnashamroge we were off to Cork, Cobh and Kinsale for the rest of the afternoon. All along the way we learned about local history, the people and the economy. Throughout the day we learned what it was like to be Irish almost 200 years ago (from Coolnashamroge) as well as what it is like today. Maurice left us with a deep understanding we could not have gained any other way. Maurice did a great job for me and my family and we wanted to recommend him to anyone who may need a great guide.

This was a fantastic tour! The four of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Maurice hit the major highlights of Cobh, allowing us to choose what we were most interested it. He gave us personal tour through Blarney Castle and the most interesting parts of its grounds. Such a friendly person and guide! Definitely recommend!
