Debre Libanos monastery is located on 100km north of Addis Ababa. Debre Libanos was founded in the 14th century by Abune Tekle Haymanot and is one of the most important religious heritage in Ethiopian Orthodox church. The Monastery has prayers cave and impressive museum. The Portuguese Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in Africa built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. This old bridge is adored with breathtaking deep gorges and waterfalls, especially during rainy season; June, July and August. Your Addis Ababa tour itinerary
Morning at 7:30, I will pick you from your place (airport, hotel or any place in Addis Ababa) and then start driving north through beautiful terrain and farmlands (2:30 hours). Arrive at Debre Libanos monastery, an important religious heritage with prayers cave and museum displaying many religious antiquities. We will spend here about one and half hour visiting the church, museum and prayers cave. (1:30 hours). After lunch break, we will visit the Portuguese bridge which is adored with breathtaking waterfalls and deep gorges. In the vicinity of the bridge, we will also visit the endemic Gelada baboons and other bird species (2 hours) Late in the afternoon we will drive back to Addis Ababa. Drop off at your preferred place and end of the tour. (2:30 hours)
