Hi! I’m Averil, a French local who has been calling Prague home since 2019. My mother tongue is French and I speak English fluently. I live here with my Czech partner and our two adorable cats, and I’m looking forward to helping you discover Prague through a local’s eyes. I do not offer general tours of Prague! I’m a Licensed Tour Guide with a passion for women's history. I love to share the lesser known stories of inspiring Czech women. The city has a rich, yet often overlooked, legacy of women’s activism, and I’m eager to bring it to light. I’m also fascinated by the city’s urban history, brutalist architecture, and the thriving underground arts and cultural scenes. I’m also a foodie at heart, especially when it comes to vegetarian and vegan food. Prague has an incredible variety of places to enjoy, and I’m always discovering new spots to recommend. In my free time, you’ll likely find me hiking, climbing, playing the piano, or even indulging in video games or series. I believe in the importance of learning about the social issues that shape the places we visit or live in, and I’m always happy to offer an authentic, thoughtful perspective on Prague. I’d love to show you the Prague I know, beyond the typical tourist sites.

Join me for a one an a half hour long peaceful walk in Prague's largest graveyard, Olšany Cemeteries, and uncover the stories of 9 remarkable women laid to rest here. Among them are pioneers of Czech women’s emancipation, like Karolína Světlá & Eliška Krásnohorská, and fascinating figures like the “Czech Coco Chanel” or Anna Náprstková, a successful entrepreneur. I'll also tell you the poignant story of a mother, Libuše Palachová, who fought to preserve her son’s memory, Jan Palach, after his tragic self-immolation in protest of the 1968 Soviet invasion. Along the way, we’ll explore the legacies of often-forgotten women and have a moment to pay our respects by placing flowers on their graves. Surrounded by nature, this graveyard provides a serene, reflective escape from the city, especially stunning in fall with its golden foliage. Often compared to Père Lachaise in Paris or historic US cemeteries like Arlington, Greenwood, or Mount Auburn, it holds the graves of many notable historical figures.
•Once we've arrived, we'll walk approximately 1.6 km through the cemeteries, stopping at 9 graves of remarkable Czech women. •Our route will begin at the cemetery entrance closest to the Flora metro & tram stop. •The first grave we'll visit is that of author Karolina Světlá. •Then we'll stop by the grave of Anna Náprstková, a philanthropist & entrepreneur. •Later, we'll see the grave of Ludimila Bozděchová, the 1st female telegraphist in the Austrian Empire. •Next, we'll visit the grave of author Eliška Krásnohorská. •We'll then see the grave of artist Jarmila Loulová. •Afterwards we'll visit the graves of political activists Jan Palach & Libuše Palachová. •We'll proceed to the grave of sculptor Hana Podolská. •Later we'll see the grave of artist & educator Josefína Humpalová Zemanová. •Finally we'll see the graves of 2 sculptors, Leopolda Dostalová & Karel Dvořák. •Our tour will end at the exit closest to the Želivského metro & tram stop. Photos of the tour's sites are by the great Daria Kutova.

This is a walking tour. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes! If you prefer to take a metro with me and you are under 65 years old, the cost is 2.50 euro, otherwise it would be 1.20 euro. If you'd like to get a taxi (there are XL cars for up to 6 people) the cost would be around 10 euro for the ride.

I can pick you up at your accommodation, or anywhere in the city centre, and take you to the cemeteries by public transports or taxi. Or you can come meet me at the entrance of the cemeteries closest to the Flora Metro and tram stop. Here is the exact location on Google maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QPdm8cmcyfVHXi5w6.
