Sibenik feels like a big village and I would love to show you this city through my eyes. So nope, I am not your umbrella-wielding guide :) My name is Igor and I have been living in Sibenik region since 2005. I've decided to be tour guide because I've also realized that Dalmatia and especially Sibenik is not yet ready for mass tourism, therefore quite difficult to move around and to appreciate, even for some locals. I am "witnessing" the history of Sibenik region as person from the side. However, like typical Dalmatian I like long sleeping, 'will do tomorrow', slow food, glass of wine before bed-time, 'intense discussion' about soccer players and politics. I love Sibenik, walking in Sibenik, exploring Sibenik, learning about Sibenik and finding out new things and old things, and particularly, I like strange, quirky and slightly odd facts. I am promoting the "slow tourism", allowing you deeper experience, stronger emotional involvement and relaxation. After all, Croatian coast is well known by its slow Mediterranean lifestyle, called "fjaka" (pronounced "fyaka"). You see, you've already just learned something about Dalmatia and you haven't even come to my tour :) Freelance Licensed Tour Guide ID Number 012636 Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) and Certified Interpretive Trainer (CIT) in Interpret Europe (European Association for Heritage Interpretation)

Think of me as your local friends with whom you eat, drink and explore! It's a real hotchpotch, but you will uncover and experience: Café culture, appetizer which was served on the coronation of Queen Elisabeth II, local grape which you can see in the UN building in NY, white wine which locals used to pay their debt to the Venetians, Mediterranean Garden in old town, open air market, medieval air-conditioning, sweet fritters, donkey races, cooking "bell", medieval food market (don't worry, its modern food now), animal rights in the Middle Ages, medieval cloth measurer, Mediterranean herbs, a mix of white wine and soda water or red wine and still water, olive oil currency, to understand why locals washing olives with the sea water, baked filled pastries which you can find in the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire, summer homes of Sibenik noblemen, Brangelina divorce, shell fish farms, and numerous other things along the way. I will probably also mention the plague of Sibenik 1649 quite a bit too!
We will have to spend a routine day of a local person: - We will start our tour from the open air market, which is not located in the old part of the city (this is only one location outside the old part of Sibenik :). - Then we will have coffee and traditional food at this time of the day. - We will visit the Medieval Garden where we will try a drink for all diseases. - Then we will go down to the largest medieval city cistern of the city where we will again drink like the locals :). - Well, then we have a traditional Marenda in the local city tavern where, in fact, we won't even know what awaits us, because the menu changes depending on what the local female chef finds in the market. By the way, in Šibenik they believe that if you don't eat Marenda, you will probably starve to death. - And yes, there will also be dessert as well at the last stop. This is just the main part. We will stop a lot and talk, eat, drink, and just chat chat like the locals do. Tour can be customized at your request.
