Sibenik feels like a big village and I would love to show you this city through my eyes. So nope, I am not your umbrella-wielding guide :) My name is Igor and I have been living in Sibenik region since 2005. I've decided to be tour guide because I've also realized that Dalmatia and especially Sibenik is not yet ready for mass tourism, therefore quite difficult to move around and to appreciate, even for some locals. I am "witnessing" the history of Sibenik region as person from the side. However, like typical Dalmatian I like long sleeping, 'will do tomorrow', slow food, glass of wine before bed-time, 'intense discussion' about soccer players and politics. I love Sibenik, walking in Sibenik, exploring Sibenik, learning about Sibenik and finding out new things and old things, and particularly, I like strange, quirky and slightly odd facts. I am promoting the "slow tourism", allowing you deeper experience, stronger emotional involvement and relaxation. After all, Croatian coast is well known by its slow Mediterranean lifestyle, called "fjaka" (pronounced "fyaka"). You see, you've already just learned something about Dalmatia and you haven't even come to my tour :) Freelance Licensed Tour Guide ID Number 012636 Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) and Certified Interpretive Trainer (CIT) in Interpret Europe (European Association for Heritage Interpretation)

I've also realized that Dalmatia and especially Sibenik is not yet ready for mass tourism, therefore quite difficult to move around and to appreciate, even for some locals. A few things you discover include a Sibenik patron saint, theater where doctor Kovach (from ER) started his career, city title, four fortresses, the German name of one fortress, medieval «oil», the Orthodox church that was a catholic monastery that was a Templar knights house, the first mechanical public clock which was taken from Ottomans, fire, a really old church, wars, plague (not first hand hopefully), a small cemetery, perhaps an original funeral if you are lucky, a local oligarch who turned his house into monastery, bricking up corners on the streets, medieval toilet and air condition, Cathedral with tolling of bells from Vatican, Games of Thrones, form of punishment and quite a lot more. . .
- We will start our tour near the monuments dedicated to the Croatian King. We are going to visit the most important and attractive places in Sibenik, such as: - Cathedral of St. Jacob, which has been protected by UNESCO since 2000. - We will reach the main small cemetery on the top of the hill in the old part of the city, where about 100 thousand people were buried in a hundred years. - We will walk along the square where the great Plague epidemic began, from which 90% of the population of Sibenik died in 1649. - We will enter the main city cistern for water that supplied the townspeople drinking water for more than 4 centuries. - Imagine yourself in the city of Braavos from the Games of Thrones; visit the main street with brothels in the past, which were legal until the first half of the 20th century. - Look at the Pillar of Shame and find out why they people chained there and visit more places in Sibenik. Since this is a private tour, it can be customized to your interests.
