I'm a professional tour guide in the State of Pernambuco and I live in Recife, the Capital of the State. I have my CADASTUR (the registration at the Ministry of Tourism of Brazil) for 6 years now. If you have a day in town I suggest this 6 hours tour. We start visiting the Old Town Recife, where the city began, and its many historic landmarks and unique manifestations that make Recife a singular place. The surroundings are like a second home to me. I'll introduce you to giants, poets and new tunes and flavors. We'll see ruins and talk about the past, the Portugueses, Dutchs and Jews. Visit the Marco Zero square and also the Good Jesus Street, elected by an American architecture magazine as one of the most beautiful streets in the world. I can take you for a coconut water at Boa Viagem beach and go shopping in a place that used to be a prison. There are many things to discover. In Olinda's historic center (World Heritage by UNESCO in 1982) we'll get to walk around the old cobblestone streets, and colored houses, feeling the harmony between the buildings, gardens, churches and convents. I'll help you to find out the secrets and beauties of Olinda.

Communications really matter and Sergio made us feel comfortable from the very first contact. We have interests in nature, history and culture and had lots of discussions with Sergio who made it very clear that our quest for the perfect day would be achieved. He sought out things that were new to him and even spent a day researching it himself and visiting in person to make sure it was suitable. It was perfect! A walk in wonderful forests with an extra guide on hand Lush forests, beautiful flowers and fruits, and a really good physical work out, followed by a tranquil place to swim in streams while enjoying a chilled beer in a place so safe and friendly we felt we could leave our phones and bags completely unattended. We were then given a real treat, a trip back to town to sample a massive range of true local foods and drink before an expert and informative trip around town A perfect day

Sergio gave us a great tour of Recife! He is an enthusiastic person with a strong knowledge of history and culture and excellent English. We appreciated his flexibility, his willingness to do some research on some local Recife cultural figures and his ability to keep us away from the larger cruise group tours. He knew a lot about Brazilian music genres and gave us some suggestions of new music to listen to. He chose an excellent place for lunch that met everyone's needs and we appreciate his willingness to extend the tour a little so we could accommodate the schedule of the guide at our last stop. He continued to give us suggestions even while we at our next stop, as he knew our itinerary! You can feel confident working with him.
We couldn't have asked for a better tour. Sergio spoke excellent English and helped us customize our private tour based on our interests. We went to plenty of memorable and unique places. We stopped at a couple random spots to try local eats and drinks, which were delicious. He also gave us all kinds of recommendations on what to do with our remaining time in Recife and the surrounding area. In Recife: Recife Antigo (Old Recife) - Landmark Zero Square & Artcraft Center; - Good Jesus Street, Giant Puppets Embassy (optional) a local Carnaval tradition, Synagogue Kahal Zur Israel (optional). - Arsenal Square and Pernambuco Embassy (optional) a perfect spot to get in touch with the State's Popular Culture and its Carnaval traditions. - Republica Square and its monuments (panoramic); - Casa da Cultura: an old prison turned into a shopping mall of local products and arts crafts. Stop for lunch around noon. In Olinda: - Franciscan Convent, the oldest Franciscan convent in Brazil; - Sé Cathedral, also known as the Church of Our Lord Savior of the World, where we can access one of the most beautiful views in the historic center; - art shops of Alto da Sé; - Saint Benedict's Monastery from the outside (closed for renovation) NOTE: on Mondays or holidays some museums and cultural centers may not be open.
