The Duong Lam ancient village on the outskirts of Hanoi is also known as a museum of laterite, home to around 300 houses built three or four centuries ago with lateritic bricks. The village has also been described as the last stronghold of wet rice farming culture in northern Vietnam. A journey to Duong Lam village is a trip to trace back the origin of Vietnam's culture and traditions. This is also the great chance to explore architecture of ancient structures while you wander along its narrow alleyways, visit temples dedicated to the two kings born there, and most interesting of all, chat with the inhabitants, the owners of a national treasure.
AM08. 30: Pick up and drive to Tay Phuong pagoda, which was first built in 8th century and renovated in 18th century. After climbing 239 laterite steps, we reach the top hill to visit Tay Phuong pagoda, learn about Budhism history and local customs. AM10. 00: Processing to Duong Lam ancient village, where still preserve many hundred-year-old houses. Upon arrival, you walk along the old path to Mong Phu communal house - the solemn center of the whole village, Mia Pagoda, a well-known Buddhist temple built in 15th century and it holds the biggest number of statues: 287 ones of all sizes. AM12. 00: Enjoy lunch with local traditional Vietnamese cuisines at 400 year olds ancient house. PM: We will have a bicycle ride around this peaceful rural area to discover the daily life and farming works of Vietnamese peasants and followed by another visit to two temples dedicated to two national heroes Phung Hung and Ngo Quyen who were born in this site over 1000 years ago.
