Bat Trang is the top famous traditional porcelain and pottery village in Vietnam from the 17th century. Bat Trang was perfectly located in between two biggest trading centers at the time in the North, namely Pho Hien & Thang Long. Hence, Bat Trang's ceramics were favorite products not only in domestic business men, but also foreign ones such as Japanese, Chinese and Western trading boats. Bat Trang ceramic village nowadays becomes the interesting attractions that travellers should not miss. Coming to the village, we have great opportunity to learn how pottery is carefully created by locals and experts. We then have ability to try our own pottery making. There are numerous unique & interesting villages nearby Hanoi by my own way such as Nha Xa silk village (The real silk and non-touristy village), Le Mat snake village, etc. Kindly message me for more detailed information to choose your favorite village.
Steve was an informative and gracious tour guide. We learned a lot about the ceramic village and even tried our hands at pottery. Steve is well connected and got us into different factories. Do not miss out on the fantastic local lunch at the end. A half day well spent, and different.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Steve was informative about the village and ceramics process, and answered our many questions about life in Vietnam. Highlights were getting to make and paint our own bowls and the home visit where our host graciously served tea and snacks.

He curated great experiences for our group - from trying pottery first-hand, visiting a pottery factory, to visiting a local family, all the activities were well chosen and he did a great job explaining and guiding our diverse group. Steve allowed us a good insight into some of the craft industries that Vietnam is well-known for: lacquer and ceramics. Following the visit to the lacquer and ceramic factories, he brought us to two places for lunches - each with their own specialities and we had a great introduction to some of the Vietnamese delicacies. After a short rest break in the hotel, we then went for a cyclo tour of the Old Quarter which showcased the colourful textures of the Old Quarter. Truly enjoyed this tour by Steve!
Tour shift: Morning or Afternoon - Pick up at our hotel in Hanoi, we will take a 15-KM drive to the east of Hanoi in the outskirt to visit Bat Trang Ceramic village. - On arrival, we will visit Bat Trang communal house, which was built under Le Du Tong King's period, from 1719 to 1720. - We will then see a French ancient building, which was built in 1920s, an ancient house and the workshop of Ceramic artist Tran Van Do and another one of artist To Thanh Son. We will also call in at the workshop of Ceramic artist Vu Duc Thang. - If you wish, you can try your hands in making your own ceramic products, of course, with instruction and assistance from the artist. - Before returning to the town, we will pass by the vibrant local market. - The tour will end at around noon at our hotel in Hanoi. My tour is flexible upon customers' preference on different activities such as making ceramic products or shopping in the market.
