Skagway Shore Excursion: Full Day in Emerald Lake

Sam was fabulous! A great tour given by a permanent Skagway resident. He was great with kids and has child seats. Had games and trivia to keep kids entertained and engaged. He was very flexible and most photo spots, we were the only people there. He suggested we change itenary to take advantage of the weather. Pointed out the stores that were owned by Skagway residents and told us his favorite places. Would highly recommend for travelers who want a personalized experience and a way to see spots without all the crowds .

We enjoyed the full day tour with Sam. Sam was friendly and knowledgable. He was a good driver and guide. We were very comfortable in his new car. The tour covered many sightseeing spots and areas. We began with a city tour in Skagway, follows by a nature tour crossing the Canadian border to British Columbia, and explore part of Yukon. We stopped at the puppy place as well as visited the beautiful Emerald Lake. The views were just breath taking! Sam took us back to the cruise ship on time. On our way back, we had a very pleasant surprise to drive by his house and met his mother at the front yard of his house! We would highly recommend Sam if you would need a guide for Alaskan tours.

We had a GREAT time on our Skagway tour! Skip the train and book with Samuel! He's great with all details you'll ever want to know about Skagway and more! We saw a bear right in the roadway, stopped at a few amazing stops including the interactive camp where an Iditarod racer keeps her incredible dogs. We also stopped at the suspension bridge, which is a "must". We had lunch in the quaint town of Carcross . Samuel was very accommodating, has a clean and spacious vehicle, and allowed us to take as much time at each stop as we wanted. The fact that we could stop and take pictures along the way at every scenic stop alone makes it better than the train, and having a personal guide like Samuel made it even better. I couldn't recommend him enough! We also learned how the guides change their behavior from month to month - be sure to ask him :).

Sam is very knowledgeable. Great day out in the Yukon. Sam has great communication and is very easy to work with. Highly recommend a private tour with Sam versus the over crowded ship tours. Thanks Sam!

Sam provided us with a wonderful private tour. We knew of a few places we wanted to stop, but he made sure we saw all the best spots along the way. His van was fully equipped with binoculars for all of us and he even had a telescope that he set up for us to see some of the wildlife. We were interested in riding with the sled dogs at the Tutshi dog run. When we arrived there it was a rather long line so he made sure we got lunch and still had time to enjoy the puppies. We picked to ride the train back to Skagway - Sam took us to the station to pick up our tickets and made sure we arrived promptly. We had 8 members in our party ranging from toddler to seniors and he ensured each of us enjoyed our day. I would 100% take this tour again!! Thank you so much Sam for a wonderful tour, and for the special surprise for our littles. We will reach out to you if we get back to Alaska again.

Sam was amazing!! If you are nervous about booking a tour off the ship, don’t be!! Sam got us back with hours to spare. He was entertaining and informative, we never felt rushed. He took lots of pictures for us and let the day be ours. A long car ride with kids can be a bore for them but he had fun games and made it entertaining. He even had prizes for them at the end. Of all the excursions we took on this cruise, both kids said Sam’s was their favorite! It was also neat to just see the community aspect of where he lives and the locals that he knew. It added more than just the sights! We cannot say enough good things. Perfect way to see Skagway and Canada and build great memories. Highly recommend!!!
