ALOHA! I am a born and raised Alaskan who moved to Skagway from Nome in 1976. After growing up in retail in Skagway giving tours has been the best decision ever! The joy and awe that my visitors share with me on tour reminds me every single day of how very lucky I am to live in Alaska. I have had a very active Alaskan life full of dog mushing, kayaking, rafting, camping, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and endless adventures that I love to share with my clients. I have a passion for history, and love to share facts and stories that stretch past the brief Gold Rush history of the area and dig deeper into the stories and history of the land, Native peoples, and alternative history most newcomers who give tours have no idea about. Each tour is entirely catered to the group so I never give the same tour twice. I love feeling out each group to see what really captivates them and know that this ability to be totally spontaneous makes for a truly authentic experience for my passengers. At the end of every trip I feel like I have made new friends. I can't believe I get paid to do what I love and get to be a part of so many trips "of a lifetime". I am grateful for each group as everyone who chooses to tour with me helps me to live full time in the land that I love. Join me for the ultimate LOCAL experience! Here's a little more about me: I started life in our trading post in Nome, Alaska that my parents started after coming to the Last Frontier to teach in the late 60's. I grew up with unique experiences that seem stereotypical to what people would imagine of life in the Last Frontier. My babysitters were Inupiaq and I spent most of my early years steeped in Native food, stories, culture and love. We had a team of 2 dozen sled dogs that my dad used to run in the 1976 Iditarod Sled Dog Race (he won the coveted Red Lantern Award for last place). Growing up we would pack up the camper and set out exploring every corner of this great state which provided endless stories and precious memories that I love to share with visitors. We moved to Skagway in 1976 and opened a gallery and museum of Alaskan History. I worked from the time I could reach the counter and saw the tourism industry grow with each passing season. During my tenure running the family biz, I would fly up to the Inupiaq and Siberian Yupik Eskimo villages to buy artwork directly from the artists which is something no other retailers do. Despite my love for the history, artists, materials and family I realized that after 30 years in retail I needed to find my own direction away from the family business. I adore sharing my town, region, and experiences with people from all over the world and love hearing their stories as well. This is truly the best "job" ever! I look forward to meeting you in Skagway! -Years in Skagway: 46 and counting. Tour guide in Skagway '95-'97. Join a Born and Raised Alaska and permanent year round Skagwegian on your Full Day Summit Yukon Emerald Lake Tour is the best bang for your buck when it comes to your short stay in Skagway! Growing up in Skagway and working inside a retail store was so hard when family and friends would come to visit. They would ask me what they should do for the day and I would always give them the keys to my car and say "Drive up to Carcross and Emerald Lake!" All I wanted was to join them and be their guide. It is my favorite road in North America and never gets old! Experience three climate zones in the first 25 miles, plus the climate of the Yukon is drier and often offers WAY better weather than found in the rainforest of the Inside Passage. The farther inland you go, the better your chances of spotting wildlife! As you enter the Yukon we will drive past the old Venus mine and Bove Island on our way to Carcross village. Just past Carcross we will stop at the world's smallest desert on our way to Emerald Lake.
Tour is customized entirely for your group. Some photo stops are always provided and others may be added based on interest and time availability. I am always open to personal requests and happy to discuss options before you book your tour. Stops we typically make include: *Denver Valley *Rocky point, Brackett's wagon road and White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad tracks *Pitchfork Falls and Goat Lake Hydro Pipeline *Bridal Veil Falls and White Pass City valley *Moore Creek Bridge *Welcome to Alaska Sign *White Pass Summit *International Falls *Views of Summit/Fraser Lake *Canadian Customs *Yukon Suspension Bridge ( $Additional fee to stop/cross) *Tutshi Boat Launch *Tutshi panoramic view *Sherry's favorite photo stop *Welcome to the Yukon sign *Historic Venus Mine *Bove Island and Lime Mt. *Historic Carcross village *Sandy beach at Lake Bennett *Carcross Desert *Spectacular Emerald Lake *Pet puppies or take a dog cart ride at either Caribou Crossing Wildlife Museum or Tagish Lake Kennels (admission/rides extra
