I’m Allan, and have had the pleasure of calling Juneau home since 2016. Although I grew up in California and Oklahoma as a kid, my parents instilled in me a deep love of travel. That passion has taken me to many states and a few homes, but settling in Juneau feels like the perfect fit, and it's where I live with my wife and daughter. My wife’s family actually has deep roots here — they’re a third-generation Juneau family, with her grandfather having been stationed in Alaska during WWII. Last year, I decided to pursue guiding full time in order to share my love of this fascinating city. Previously, I worked as a city ambassador and educator, gaining valuable insights about our community and its visitors. On my scenic road tours, I love sharing the rich history and beauty of Juneau: from its indigenous roots and mining town origins to its role as Alaska’s capital and its incredible wildlife. Let's explore Alaska together!

See up close the life cycles of different species of salmon at Juneau's DIPAC hatchery. Here up to 95% of salmon survive their growth from egg until released into the ocean. On June 21 the salmon ladder - which adults climb to spawn - is opened, which attracts bald eagles, seals and sea lions from the Gastineau Channel. Photo opportunities abound! While the salmon ladder is closed prior to that date, the hatchery's fish tanks, aquarium, touch pools and gift shop are open all season. I'll also take you to a viewpoint where wildlife like marmots, orca and humpback whales may be spotted, especially with the binoculars I'll provide. This tour is not to be missed! It also includes a drive through historic downtown, and stops at a few other scenic spots (time permitting). I have lived in Juneau for a decade, and thus have much more to share than one who has moved here just for a summer job. Let's create memories together!
-After picking you up, we'll drive through the historic downtown area, seeing Juneau's Capitol building, the Governor's Mansion and a few buildings built in the early 1900's. -Next, we'll visit the Douglas Island Pink and Chum Salmon Hatchery, both indoors and outside. I will give you a personal tour of it, and answer your questions (if I do not have an answer, I'll gladly seek out someone who does). -Afterwards, we'll head to the Shrine of St. Therese, a beautiful spot to see the ocean and its wildlife, and stroll leisurely. On the drive to and from the Shrine, black bears are sometimes seen along the road! If so, we can take photos from the safety of our vehicle. -Lastly, depending on how much time we have left, we could potentially visit a few other scenic spots and landmarks. -Finally I'll drop you back off at your pick-up location.
