From the historic Stranahan Home, we'll talk about the early pioneers of Fort Lauderdale, originally known as the "New River Settlement". Trade between local Indians and travelers helped both groups thrive in the Everglades, until a second war with the Seminole tribe. Hear the story of Major Lauderdale, the fort, and the city taking the name, "Fort Lauderdale". Charlie Rhodes came back from Venice, with the idea of canal-building, creating house lots with ocean access. The deep canals and great climate made the city "the Yachting Capital of the World". We will drive along the beach, and see the luxury hotels that have replaced the motels that were here in the 1960's. A public pool, next to the beach, brought teenagers together, launching the movie, "Where the Boys Are", adding to our fame as "the Spring Break Capital of the World". Today, visitors attend the "International Boat Show", go out to international waters to make a down payment, tax free. Where else would you buy a $30 million yacht?

I use a beautiful, spacious, luxury GMC Yukon XL with leather seats, 3 rows that carry 1 guest in front, 3 in the 2nd row (bench seat) and 3 in the 3rd row, with 45 square feet of luggage/cargo space behind the 3rd row. Total guest capacity is seven, unless seating space is taken for luggage. The SUV is fully insured, and is authorized for Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
