I am a life-long local of Charlottesville, VA. I have tried to move to big cities like San Francisco, New Orleans, even Rome, but Charlottesville kept calling me back. Even when I was living elsewhere, I had close family connections in the area. I am one of a rare bunch - C-Ville locals who also attended the University of Virginia. Actually, I am what you would call a Double Hoo - meaning I graduated from the University twice, once with a BA and once with an MFA. For all of my college career, I worked full time as a waitress at some of the best restaurants in town. There are few options for people with degrees in Art History, so I decided to use mine to become an extraordinary tour guide, first in Rome and other cities in Europe, and now in the major cities of the East Coast. I have been working in the tourism industry for over a decade and am a highly rated tour director and guide with multiple tour operators, both adult and student. With all the other customer service experience I have had, I am confident I will be able to provide an amazing experience for any age group, in any city. But C-Ville will always be home. So when ToursByLocals let me know that people were looking for a guide to this little town, I couldn't wait to sign up! Charlottesville is an amazing place, not just because of its history, not just because of its mountain views, or the soil and climate that make it possible to grow almost anything. . . it's just got that something that people fall in love with! We have so many people who come to visit and just stay!! Maybe you will too!! BA from the University of Virginia in Art History MFA from the University of Virginia in Classical Art and Archaeology Certification with International Tour Management Institute 2001 DC Certified Guide since 2014 Member of the DC Guild of Professional Tour Guides since 2015 Certified New York City Guide since 2017 Member of the Guide Association of New York City since 2021 I am not a driver guide. I can accompany you in your vehicle or arrange for a separate car and driver.

Overview of your Charlottesville tour

From Thomas Jefferson's crazy obsession with architecture to his unusual college career, we will get into his great love for his retirement project at the University of Virginia. As a native of Charlottesville, I have been steeped in Jefferson since childhood, and as a student at his University of Virginia, it just got worse! Come explore hidden gardens and secret societies, societal norms and shames throught he years at Mr. Jefferson's University. We will start with Jefferson and his design for the Grounds (we don't have a campus) as well as the community he wanted to develop. We will explore the slave years as well as the Civil War and what was to follow. But by the early 20th century, the UVA student body was getting goofy. Join me and enjoy the irreverent tales of Presidents, poets, and stock market mogels. I look forward to seeing you on Grounds!!

Your Charlottesville tour itinerary
