I am a life-long local of Charlottesville, VA. I have tried to move to big cities like San Francisco, New Orleans, even Rome, but Charlottesville kept calling me back. Even when I was living elsewhere, I had close family connections in the area. I am one of a rare bunch - C-Ville locals who also attended the University of Virginia. Actually, I am what you would call a Double Hoo - meaning I graduated from the University twice, once with a BA and once with an MFA. For all of my college career, I worked full time as a waitress at some of the best restaurants in town. There are few options for people with degrees in Art History, so I decided to use mine to become an extraordinary tour guide, first in Rome and other cities in Europe, and now in the major cities of the East Coast. I have been working in the tourism industry for over a decade and am a highly rated tour director and guide with multiple tour operators, both adult and student. With all the other customer service experience I have had, I am confident I will be able to provide an amazing experience for any age group, in any city. But C-Ville will always be home. So when ToursByLocals let me know that people were looking for a guide to this little town, I couldn't wait to sign up! Charlottesville is an amazing place, not just because of its history, not just because of its mountain views, or the soil and climate that make it possible to grow almost anything. . . it's just got that something that people fall in love with! Overview of your Charlottesville tour
Virginia wine has really started to hold its own in the world wine industry. Now, enter the women. As a native of Charlottesville, I have been so lucky to have worked in the food and wine industry for almost 20 years before becoming a tour guide. But the most exciting development for me has been the ever increasing number of vineyards where the wine is made by women. Most often daughters are taking over for fathers as vineyards reach their second or third generation. But some are women who are just powerhouses of the industry, and some break free from Dad and make their own fun. Charlottesville has over 200 vineyards within an hour of the city center, and it is hard to say how many are watching women rise through their ranks. We will visit 3, possibly 4 vineyards given availability where the ladies are taking over.
Your Charlottesville tour itinerary
- We will visit Blenheim, Septenary, and Veritas Vineyards. - About 1. 5 hours of driving with apx. 45 min at each vineyard, so about 4 hours. - At each Vineyard we will enjoy a seasonal flight or tasting of wine and the lovely views of the vineyard. - Blenheim has 3 different flights of 4 wines offered - one mixed, one whites, one reds. All of these vineyards change the selections regularly to keep you coming back! - Septenary has 3 flight choices of 4 wines each which also change frequently! - Veritas has sanitation in mind with their adorable little 2 oz bottles. They have their Taste in Place flight of 4 wines - their famous Viognier, Rose, Merlot, and Red Star. These are also subject to change based on availability. - I will include a light picnic of baguette from a noted local ABC bakery with award-winning goat cheese from local Caramont Farms as well as other seasonal local offerings of charcuterie and honey. - As always this tour can be completely customized.
