I am a life-long local of Charlottesville, VA. I have tried to move to big cities like San Francisco, New Orleans, even Rome, but Charlottesville kept calling me back. Even when I was living elsewhere, I had close family connections in the area. I am one of a rare bunch - C-Ville locals who also attended the University of Virginia. Actually, I am what you would call a Double Hoo - meaning I graduated from the University twice, once with a BA and once with an MFA. For all of my college career, I worked full time as a waitress at some of the best restaurants in town. There are few options for people with degrees in Art History, so I decided to use mine to become an extraordinary tour guide, first in Rome and other cities in Europe, and now in the major cities of the East Coast. I have been working in the tourism industry for over a decade and am a highly rated tour director and guide with multiple tour operators, both adult and student. With all the other customer service experience I have had, I am confident I will be able to provide an amazing experience for any age group, in any city. But C-Ville will always be home. So when ToursByLocals let me know that people were looking for a guide to this little town, I couldn't wait to sign up! Charlottesville is an amazing place, not just because of its history, not just because of its mountain views, or the soil and climate that make it possible to grow almost anything. . . it's just got that something that people fall in love with! We have so many people who come to visit and just stay!! Maybe you will too!! BA from the University of Virginia in Art History MFA from the University of Virginia in Classical Art and Archaeology Certification with International Tour Management Institute 2001 DC Certified Guide since 2014 Member of the DC Guild of Professional Tour Guides since 2015 Certified New York City Guide since 2017 Member of the Guide Association of New York City since 2021 I am not a driver guide. I can accompany you in your vehicle or arrange for a separate car and driver.

This is a combination of my 2 historic Charlottesville tours. We can start at either, end as is your preference. If you have your own transportation, we can drive between the two. If not, there is a free trolley connecting the two areas. If you are an avid walker, it is a 30 min stroll in between, but those 30 min would not be part of the tour.
This is a flexible itinerary: - We will visit the Grounds of Mr Jefferson's central and original "Academical Village. " - We will see the Rotunda, the Lawn, the lawn rooms and Pavilions. - We will also visit several of the award winning Gardens, as well as the range rooms and hotels. - The Enslaved Laborers Memorial opened in May 2021, so a visit to that is a must! - We will end at the Newcomb Hall Bookstore for souvenirs and refreshments. - We will transfer downtown to continue the tour. - We will visit the grounds of the original courthouse as well as surrounding significant sites before continuing to the Downtown Mall, our original Main St commercial district, revitalized at the nation's bi-centennial (about an hour to an hour and a half). - We will see the Courthouse, Court Square Park and Park St Park, and important sites on the Mall. - We will also visit the homes of several people formerly enslaved at Monticello and see how they moved on. - We will end at the newly christened Heather Heyer Way.

If you have your own transportation, we can drive. If you are an avid walker, it is a 30 min stroll between the two locations, but that half an hour is not part of the tour. If neither of these options are viable, there is a free local trolley we can take.

The meeting point is flexible and depends on whether we are starting at UVA or downtown. I am also happy to meet anywhere within walking distance of either, as long as it doesn't add significantly to the time and distance of the tour.
