Ayutthaya was once the richest capital of the world and when you walk along the ancient palace and temple ruins, you will see how kings and queens ruled this capital and conquered neighboring empires. Until the city was defeated by the Birmese. The city burned for 7 days and 7 nights before the Birmese retreated. This event was the start of a new reign in Siam (now called Thailand). It was the start of the present dynasty to set up Bangkok as the capital of the country. But not before the new Thai king fought the Birmese and made sure they would not return again. Gold, slaves, women, elephants and weapons were fought over during the many wars between Siam, the Birmese and Khmer over centuries. When you visit Ayutthaya you will understand what has shaped South East Asia and how the colonizing powers tried to get a grip on it but finally had to retreat as well. on this tour you will see the most impressive sites, get a feeling for the local people and make a cool boatride around the island of Ayutthaya.
