Known as a food paradise, Singapore has lots to offer in terms of a diverse spread of local cuisine. Singapore offers a rich food culture with influences from China, India and South East Asia. The result is a delectable local cuisine with spices from the region to give that extra oomph! During the tour, I will share with you about the ingredients that go into each dish, how it is made including the cultural influences that created this dish. One of my favorites is the Ondeh Ondeh. This mochi-like sweet potato-glutinous rice ball with brown palm sugar as fillings provides a sweet ending to any meal. Just pop the dessicated coconut coated ball into your mouth and feel the burst of the liquified brown sugar as you take the first bite. . . heavenly! I will share with you the source of our food, including a visit to a hawker centre and local market. Indeed, Singapore's hawker culture is now in the UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage, and so a visit to a hawker centre is a must!
The food trail will bring participants to several street food haunts in the Geylang Serai-Katong-Joo Chiat area where you will get to try several different Singaporean street food. The tour fee includes bottled water and food. The food menu could include the following: Laksa Char Kuey Teow Soup Kambing Putu Piring Vadai Peranakan kueh and dumpling Roti Prata Chendol I'm sure the names do sound alien to many of you but not any more when you join me on the Great Singaporean Food adventure! I will share with you what go into each dish and how they are made. And what better way to do a food tour than with a FOODIE like me as your guid
