Embark on a private tour of Mazatlán with me! My name is Jose and I spent my childhood near the so-called Golden Zone, at a time when there was only one skyscraper hotel. My family moved downtown a few years before I left for college. I obtained a Master’s in creative writing at NYU and became certified as a healing practitioner. When I came back, I wrote a daily column on Mazatlán’s history for a local newspaper, and years later a book on how to flaneur Mazatlán’s historical district (available in English at our local library). These experiences are what led me to become a tour guide! They were my first encounter with the depths of local history. Before downtown was designated as a historical heritage, I used to roam the vine-covered facades and cobbled streets in awe of a glorious past. I’ve been giving tours in Mazatlán since 2020. During that time, I’ve tailored private, flexible, genuinely personal experiences for hundreds of travellers on different platforms, with lenses that explore the culinary, artistic, historical, literary and even musical singularities of the Pacific Pearl. I am eagerly waiting to share my love for Mazatlán with you! We will wonder about the city through a lens as eclectic as its phenomenal sunsets and multicoloured facades, talking to the deck hands at the shrimp harbour, collecting shells buried under the golden beach by the Golden Zone, trying a seafood taco or a coconut shake off the beaten path or taking in the world’s largest mural at the convention centre. Mazatlán’s untold story is waiting—unearthed in courtyard conversations, savoury bites, and the memories you’ll take with you. I think the city is enjoyed at its best on a walking pace, at the rhythm of its breaking waves. Let’s write this chapter together! Bring your sense of adventure and let the Pacific Pearl dazzle you. Do not forget your appetite, as the Mazatlán I know and love tastes at least as good as it looks!
