Explore Amman your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Amman tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Amman for every interest, including:

Layover tours: Meet your guide at Queen Alia International Airport and head straight to the Citadel and Roman Theatre, with a quick stop for kanafeh and Arabic coffee on Rainbow Street before returning for your flight. With a longer layover, add Madaba’s mosaic map and Mount Nebo viewpoints on flexible layover tours.

History tours: Explore the Citadel’s Temple of Hercules and Umayyad Palace complex, then continue to the Jordan Museum to see Dead Sea Scrolls fragments and Nabataean artefacts. Many tours include the Nymphaeum and the markets around Al-Balad to connect sites with daily life.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Day-trip to Ajloun Forest Reserve for oak and pine trails with birdwatching, or head to Azraq Wetland and Shaumari Wildlife Reserve to look for migratory birds and Arabian oryx. In season, your guide can arrange Wadi Mujib canyon walks where you might spot ibex on the cliffs.

Amman is hilly with limited public transit, so most sights aren’t easily walkable between each other. You can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide to arrange private transportation for a smoother day.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Amman inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Amman

Staying in Amman puts you close to ancient cities, salt-crusted shores, and hilltop forts, so day trips are easy to plan and your tour can lean toward history, food, or wide-open views.

Jerash pairs Roman streets and soaring columns with a quick drive time, so you get maximum ruins without a long haul; walk the Cardo, test the theatre acoustics, and, if you like forts and country roads, link it with nearby Ajloun for a hillside castle and olive-mill stops.

Madaba and Mount Nebo suit you if mosaics and big panoramas sound good, since Madaba’s churches hold detailed floor maps and Mount Nebo looks over the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea; add craft studios and a relaxed lunch for a soft-culture day.

Dead Sea keeps it simple and sensory, with a float at a public beach, mineral-rich mud, and clifftop lookouts along the Dead Sea Highway; this is an easy, low-walking option that still feels different from city time.

Umm Qais delivers black-basalt ruins, Roman streets, and sweeping views toward the Golan and the Sea of Galilee, so it fits anyone into layered history and borderland scenery; the old Ottoman village beside the site makes a good stop for local dishes.

Ajloun Castle gives you Crusader-era walls, forested ridgelines, and cooler air than the capital, which works well if you like short climbs, village markets, and a slower rural pace tucked into the highlands.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Amman most travellers miss.
