I am a Bedouin from Petra. I was born in a Bedouin tent on the mountain heights above Petra. When I was a child my family and I would often take our rest and relaxation in the caves of the ancient city of Petra. Petra was my playground as a child and my place of inspiration. I used to walk almost five miles to school, and living in this openness made my mind open and my dreams infinite. When I finished my higher education I got specialized in Radiological Technology and worked at a hospital as the head of x-ray department for four successive years but my passion to the rocks of Petra kept me guiding guests from time to another before I quited to become a full time freelance licensed tour guide. I'm totally passionate about history and ancient cultures. One of the things I love the most is to see people's smile and hear the "wow" they say when see or understand something new. Private tours really help on this as everything becomes much more personal and intense and the simple fact that you arrange everything with your guide, this helps to create a relationship even before you get here. I'm also a relaxed and laid back person, I always prefer to turn these tours into an informal walk and conversation, allowing you to feel and understand the places. Madaba, City of Mosaics, to view its wonderfully vivid map of the sixth century A. D. Holy Land. Nearby is the revered Mount Nebo, where Moses climbed to survey the promised land. Visit the site of Machaerus, a stronghold of Herod Antipas, where Salome danced for the head of John the Baptist. Jordan is a unique and blessed land of the Old and New Testaments and early years of Islam. The litany of ancient place names reads like biblical gazetteer Edom, Moab, Ammon, Gilead, Gad and Peraea. The Madaba of the Bible is today the small town of Madaba. At Church of St. George you can view the earliest surviving original map of the Holy Land, which was made around A. D. 560. In addition, there are other mosaic floors preserved throughout the town. West of Madaba is the hilly district of Mount Nebo, with a spectacular view across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. On a clear day, the spires of the churches of Jerusalem are visible. Mount Nebo is believed to be the tomb of Moses.
Mahmoud is an excellent guide and provided our group with an unforgettable experience. Group members commented about the breath of his knowledge and the effectiveness of his communication skills. For some of us this was our first visit to Jordan. Others were returning visitors. Everyone had the same reaction to Mahmoud and appreciated how he enhanced our visit. Was a good short day, nevertheless - excellent knowledge on all sites. Had a good time with the guide who was attentive!
- Meet in the Hotel lobby (Amman) or airport. - Leave Amman by a private modern A/C van. It takes 45 minutes to Madaba. - Stop at the visitors' center for about 15 minutes for video introduction and Jordanian free Bedouin coffee. - Visit the Byzantine Churches and see the amazing mosaic map for about 30 minutes or so. - Heading to Mount Nebo to overview Jordan rift valley, the Dead Sea, and the promised land. - Having lunch. - And then, 45 minutes back to Amman or airport. The whole itinerary is customizable.
