Hello! My name is Tomie, an officially certified tour guide. I am a young-at-heart guide. My favorite tour style is the so-called stop-and-smell-the-roses approach. Upon your request, I can explain the Tea Ceremony and Flower arrangement in detail, based on what I studied before my marriage( IoI). In particular, it is helpful to know what Matcha (powdered tea) is from scratch, because it has become incredibly popular all over the world nowadays. Now, I live in Yokohama(the second largest city in Japan) near Tokyo, but I was born and brought up in a rural country side area in Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan. I hope you enjoy compering not only cities and villages, but also a new capital, Tokyo and the old one Kyoto, both of which have very different and interesting historical and economic backgrounds. Hakone is more easily accessed from Tokyo than you think. The ride takes you to Hakone in less than 30 minutes by Bullet train (Shinkan Sen). It has a lot of must-sees; Mt. Fuji as a Japanese symbolic mountain, admiring scenic beauty on the Lake Ashi cruise, Owaku-Dani (volcanic valley site), and walking along ancient Edo Highway routes. Hakone tour also makes you enjoy various transportation, such as Hakone Mountain train (Hakone tozan train), including the famous zigzag climbing spots, a cable car from Sounzan station to Togendai, Lake Ashi cruise boat, and walking on the ancient route even a very short distance.
The tour was a lot of fun. The whole day was outstanding because of Tomie. Although she was happy to speak in English, I really enjoyed observing her speak with my son in Japanese. As always with TBL, the best part of the day is getting to know a new person. Tomie was absolutely the best!
We had a wonderful day seeing Hakone with Tomie! She was super knowledgeable and personable, both before and during the tour. We appreciated how helpful she was in making arrangements beforehand, and how resourceful she was during the tour. Due to weather conditions, Tomie had to come up with a Plan B which enabled use to not miss anything. At times it felt like we were traveling with a friend, a very energetic friend. Tomie is a very friendly guide who arrived in good time to ensure we got the most from the day. She planned the transportation well and listened and responded positively to our comment on the proposed itinerary to enable us to have additional time at the open air art museum which we thoroughly enjoyed. Over all it was a very enjoyable day with the added bonus of the good weather allowing us a view of Mount Fuji in all its glory!
Tomie was the perfect guide for our day trip to Hakone! She was very prepared, printing out an itinerary (with transportation times for each of our rides!) for the day. She imbued wonderful insight into the history, culture, and importance of the Hakone sites, and also taught us about current culturally important Japanese holiday traditions. These small touches made not just the day, but our entire trip to Japan so much more meaningful. My husband and I had such a wonderful day with her!

Meet at the Hakone Yumoto station exit gate (if you use Odakyu Line) Ride the mountain train from Hakone Yumoto to Gora station. Ride the wagon from So-un Zan Wagon station to O-waku Dani station. You can enjoy the magnificent view of an active volcano from the wagon) Lunch at Tougen-Dai Enjoy the Lake Ashi cruise from Togen-Dai to Hakone-Cho Hakone Sekisho( a checking point) tells the security system of Edo. Let's walk on an ancient path surrounded by old cider trees. Shall we take a little rest at Amazake(sweet) Sake at Amazake-Chaya? 16:00 return to Hakone Umoto 17:00 disband at Odawara station The above itinerary will differ from where you start and finish.
